What was the name of that old play on live TV so many years ago, that told a story of an old grand dad that?
was given a wooden plate to eat from, less he drop and break the china? He was not treated mean but not with any great respect that he deserved. Then later on ( I believe it was a live play on "Playhouse Theater") he was moved to a nursing home for the son's convenience, and then at the very end line the granddaughter who loved her old grandfather was asked why she is keeping his old wooden diner plate, replied that "someday Dad, you will need it" and that hit the dad right where it hurts Maybe it is a good thing that old people tend to forget a lot, and forgive a lot also!

Is this what we've Learned in Past Few Years: Entitlements are Too Big; We Kill Few Enemies with $1 Trillion,
... and America does NOT have a birthright to cheap oil? Should Russia and China be dancing as America looks at a brink? America is starting to feel like Russia did about 30 years ago --- everyone wants "free" (healthcare in today's America) while few are willing to study hard or work hard to earn it. Everyone seems to want the Government to spend $400,000 to keep grandma in a nursing home for a few years while no one wants to pay the bill. Those are great idea. But, Americans seem to have little desire to do the work needed to PAY for it.

Well we have "free" highways that we all pay for at the pump. Painless isn't it? National health care would be painless too. How many times has your mother told you not to go over to the rich kids neighborhood? They don't let you play because they like you. They let you play with them because they can use you. Quit being their patsy

Nothing is "free." If only the idealistic liberals could learn that.

whats the point? all the good jobs are being outsourced or giving to legal immigrants.

I don't do this one for points. That point cannot be more evident when I say tommy... your a moron. Americans invented big spending. The reason we want free health care is because countries like Australia and Canada have free health care. In fact, Iraq had free health care under Saddam. So, is it so wrong for Americans to think their healthcare should be free. Since we are the richest biggest dog in the yard? Maybe we don't have a birthright to cheap oil but we have the military to make sure you don't either. I personally would rather find an alternative now, but with a military as strong as Americas do you really see the American people giving up their cars when they can just take the oil? Yes we have spent a lot on the war in Iraq. But it proves one thing. Not even the people in the middle east are stupid enough to fight the Super Power on a conventional battlefield.... not even for their religion. America may turn out to be like ancient Rome.... but not today comrade. Thumbs down??? What you disagree with Americas undeniable power or the obvious question that if Saddam can give free health care why can't American?

Why are some political parties and their followers like this
Why are some political parties and their followers like this?
Okay, I am not going to name the political party since they are known for reporting people who disagree with them. Anywho. I am a 30 year old man with two bachelors degrees, one in Nursing and the other in Health Administration and Policy, and a Masters degree in Anesthiology (sorry I still cant spell that word). I started college when I was 17 years old and was completely finished with everything by the time I was 25. I am now an Anaesthiologist working with one of the best cosmetic surgeons in the Washington DC area. I make $250,000 a year. I am also a married man since I was 24 and the proud father of 2 sets of twins. My wife is a private teacher for Autistic children and makes $75 an hour. We are both living the life of our dreams. Our childrens college is already pre-paid, our house will be paid off next year. We just feel so blessed. This summer my wife and I took our kids on a Disney world tour. We went to Disney in Florida, California, China, and France. We were both able to take a month off of work to make sure our kids have the time of their lives and to bring our family closer together. Now my problem is is that thereare certain people running for president and his followers who want to take that away from me and my family. They feel that even though I work hard for my money and where I am that I shouldn't have it. They feel I should be happy with $80000 a year and the rest should be given to the poor. They see vacations like the one my family and I took and say we should be happy with just going to Six Flags. Why do these people feel this way? Why do they feel that the wealthy should suffer for the poor? Why do they feel that I should give up most of my income in federal taxes so less educated people can live better lives? Can anyone explain this logic? please. Um. Do you know how many doctors don't spell correctly? A lot.

Too much. You're not accounting for how much time it would actually take you to study for all of these classes. Start off slow. Take 15 credits. If you can handle that, then add more. No advisor in their right mind would let you sign up for a schedule like this anyway.
2 :
so do you want to get good grades? does that matter to you or is a C average OK? are you really smart so you only have to spend 10 minutes a day studying your notes and preparing for your next class? Is this your normal class load? what is your GPA now? have you ever gotten any grade under a B? are you taking your medication?

Political Science major here, so you don't need to explain to me the minor! My advice would be to drop one of the Pol Sci courses since it is only for a minor. At my school, a minor is typically only 24-32 units, and such a schedule would fill almost half of these minor requirements in one semester. I would suggest spacing the classes for your minor out a bit. I've taken a class similar to your PSCI 330 class and found it to be very interesting, but also very study-intensive. There's a lot of history that plays an important role in the governmental structure of the regions and a lot of things to remember come exam time. Maybe consider dropping this course for this semester and taking it next fall. I've found that Political Science classes don't require much homework, but final grades are usually decided on about 3 exams and one paper, meaning that finding study time can be difficult a few times a semester, though this could vary by college. Hope this helps, and good luck.

This will be your very first term in college? Yes, it's too much. Average number of units most full-time students take is 16 units. Actually, most colleges won't even let you take more than 18 units at a time without permission. Here are some lessons and mistaken freshmen make: Number 1 lesson to learn is never take an 8am class unless you have to. Number 2 is don't forget to schedule time between classes especially if this is a large campus and classes are on opposite ends of campus. Number 3 is don't forget to schedule in a lunch time. Most professors do not appreciate students eating in class.
5 :
Yes it's way too much, especially for your first semester, unless you plan on giving up sleeping altogether. I don't think any seniors would dare to take that many. The average full time student takes about 14-16 credits a semester, and besides, as another poster stated, most colleges won't allow you to take more than 18 or 19 credits at a time. Here's what I suggest: Forget about your political science minor for the time being. You have plenty of time to worry about that later. Most minors only require about 18-21 credits, while majors typically require 40. As a freshman, you should be concerned mainly with general education courses and introductory or prerequisite courses for your major. Wait until sophmore year to begin taking classes for your minor, unless one of the political science classes double-counts as both a general education course and for your minor, in which you can go ahead and take it freshman year if you want to. Also, as a freshman you shouldn't be taking 300 level classes. The higher the number, the more difficult the class is supposed to be. As a freshman, all of your classes should be in the 100 level or the low 200s. Don't take 300 classes until at least your sophmore year, and only then if you feel you can handle it and don't take too many. Most of your 300 to 400 level classes should wait until you're a junior. Plus, freshmen are usually the last to register for classes, so those 300 level classes could possibly be full by the time you register. They will most likely be offered again at a later time. I suggest taking: Bio 104, Spanish, Eng 100, and one (or two, depending on your total number of credit hours) other gen eds. (I'm assuming the lab is required for the Bio class). Your total should be about 14-16 credits. Don't take any more than 16 credits during your first year, because college courses require a lot more outside of class work than high school courses, plus it will probably take you a semester or two to adjust to the increased difficulty of college level classes.

I need serious marital advice quick. I have nobody I can tell without it opening a huge can of worms
I need serious marital advice quick. I have nobody I can tell without it opening a huge can of worms?
My instinct is to run home to mom but I didn't tell her what happened because I know she will freak out and insist me and my toddler come to her house. I have been visiting my mom a hundred miles away for 4 days with my son and I have a husband who I have been married to for 11 years. We have one 2 year old. My son is my world. I am a stay at home mom and go to nursing school 3 days a week, other than that I am at home. I am sorry this is long but this seems like a place I can ask. My husband has too many friends. They come and go as they please throughout my home, I feed at least one of them a night, and currently one is staying in our guest room and my husband just told me that the law is looking for him and he has nowhere to go, so my husband feeling sorry for him has let him stay the past two months. I really don't have a problem with him and the law is looking for him apparently for having a gun and he is a felon from stealing a car when he was 20 back in 1982 and felons can't have guns. That is not even the problem although I told my husband he had to go because I am not comfortable having a wanted freaking fugitive in my home. While I was gone my husband let a few people stay over. Now keep in mind we have been married over a decade. I know my husband drinks and occasionally smokes weed. I personally have never done anything stronger than tylenol and have never actually seen him smoke it because I do not approve of it and it is a sore subject with us. He is open about it so he doesn't feel the need to lie. Tonight when I came home the house was a total disaster. I was cleaning stuff up and we have a tv stand in our living area and my son plays in it by putting his toys in there and such and he opened it and grabbed one of my priceless china plates my grandma gave me and it had white powder on it. I was stunned as to why it was there or what it could be until I saw it shining and I knew it couldn't be good. I tasted it and it tasted like battery acid or something. My mind went immediately to cocaine. The guy who lives with us was outside and I called him in, since my husband hadn't got home yet and asked him what it was and he said "hon, all I can tell you is that it is no good. I promise it isn't mine, but I am not lying to you that it aint good" I believe it wasn't his, I could tell by the look on his face. My problem is that my kid had access to freaking hard core drugs. I have never been so sick in my life. I met my husband on the road with another of his friends and told him I was moving out and couldn't live like this anymore. I mean you don't know how low you can feel until you see your two year old holding a plate with cocaine on it. I am so done. I love my husband dearly, but I feel he is not doing his job protecting us. He let this happen and I am lost. What should I do?

You are totally wrong and way off base ! If it tasted like solvent it was methamphetamine, coke tastes good.
2 :
Isn't cocaine usually done on mirrors or pieces of glass....??? If it is cocaine, I would say...you can't change who your husband is friends with. HOWEVER, he can't let certain friends hang out at the house. You are going to have to lay down the law...His friends can hang out, but not live in your house. Marriage counseling, divorce, police...the only other thing I can think of. Take care ^__^
3 :
Get out. This is BS. He is treating you like his maid, not his wife. And the fact that there are drugs in the home, child protection WILL remove the child if you don't leave and create a safe place for you and your child. You can still love your husband, but obviously he doesn't respect you, if he did he wouldn't be behaving so irresponsible. And love does not mean this person is healthy for you. But I think the part for me is that you enable all of his behaviours, ie. you cleaned up the house he destroyed, rather than having him do it with his little friend. Seriously, get out, go stay with a friend or your mom, mom doesn't need to know all the details, just that you need to come stay because your marriage is over, is a long story and you can't get into the details. I am a firm believer of listening to your gut, your gut said "I AM SO DONE". That's it.

Hi Tanya, You are lucky that I came online just now and I read your question. I know what would be your situation but let me tell you very straight. Keeping a fugitive in home and hiding this information is a big crime and I believe you both (your husband & you) are doing since long. This stranger guy can be dangerous and when time will permit, he can use his gun. Also he is involved in drugs..This is really scary. My suggestion would be - Call Cops and tell them "There is fugitive staying at our place and we are not aware of his actions. He has gun and looks like, he is involved in drugs too. It seems you husband involved in wrong type of friends and your duty to hold him back doing what I suggested. Dont fear and do it. You are going to do a very noble thing which is good for sociaty and yourself too. Good Luck !!

i won't know why your husband like his friends so much. Talk to him about drugs, make it a rule that no drugs are allowed into the house. You don't want your son to be overdose with cocaine...if your husband still feel it's ok to keep his matrimonal home a 24-hr open house to all his friends, it may not be safe for you n your son. His friends have to go stay somewhere else, your husband can rent a room for them elesewhere but should not harbour outlaws. You may be implicated. Take a huge allowance from him n move out is the other option n if he keeps letting outlaws into the house, you may seek legal advice to protect your status.

I'm so sorry angel.. I agree coke (or meth)is as low as it gets. putting up with the other stuff is codependent as it is, and then that? I truly feel sad for you. I feel like you misjudged your husbands character. He misjudged his friends character, I am sure your husband was just trying to be nice, but when it comes to your children, you just don't mess around. Your husband should never have a friend like that and I hope by now he kicked him out and never talks to him again, if he can't do that, or if he sticks up for him, I don't think he was the man you married. Leave for your son's safety, I hope you can turn to your mother because that is the first place I would go. Maybe she will understand you don't want drama, you just want comfort. Mom will give you hugs.

Your husband is a drug addict, you can not change him,Discuss with him about your feeling, then give him time to change ,If he improves then well & good, otherwise move to your mother!s place .Admiral V K Singh

If I were you I would get rid of his as fast as I could. If your child would have got that stuff in his mouth he could be dead right now.Why are you even asking what you should do?You should protect your child and get the hell away from the situation.
9 :
I would absolutely, 100% leave temporarily. Go back to your mom's or anywhere you feel comfortable--you don't have to tell anyone what happened exactly, and I would not, I would just say you two got into in b/c the house was trashed or something. B/c if you two work it out you will not want everyone or esp your mom knowing what (almost) happened. What you need to do is SHOW him you mean business and the ONLY way he will take you seriously is if you do what you say and leave. IF he loves you this will scare him crapless and he will be willing to do anything, change anything to get you and his child back. If you stay and bitch NOTHING will change for very long. When you leave I would give it a few days before you even broach the subject of coming back. Make him sweat it out. This is VERY serious and he needs to realize that. When and if you do decide to start talking about going back you need to tell him that you will not allow anyone else staying with you guys for ANY length of time. I mean, he is a grown, married man and father and shouldn't be having friends over every night. That's ridiculous. Esp if they are THESE kinds of friends. Giving him he benefit of the doubt, it MIGHT not have been his coke, it really could have been someone else's--hopefully he would have sense enough to not leave the plate there--but that's really beside the point. The friends, the drugs, the partying the minute you walk out the door, it all needs to stop Hopefully this will be enough to make him realize this on his own and not let it ruin his life. Good luck.

Ask yourself, whats means more to you. The safety of your son, or your love for your hubby. Get your kid out of there.

Your responsibility is too your son. Get out of that place now. Don't look back and don't listen to the sweet talk. Time heals all wounds but it can't bring someone back to life.

if you're out of the house don't even go back, not even for clothes. if the authorities know you are hiding a fugitive and there's drugs involved i'm pretty sure they will arrest all of you, and of course take your child. your son was exposed to danger, drugs and who knows where the gun is. a person is no better than their friends, remember that.

Osama bin laden plan to send 100,000,000 arab soldiers into jerusalem, israel by 2012
Osama bin laden plan to send 100,000,000 arab soldiers into jerusalem, israel by 2012?
COME, LORD JESUS, ================ WHEN OSAMA BIN LADEN COME TO POWER IN SAUDI ARABIA HE PLAN TO SEND AS MANY AS 100,000,000 ARAB SOLDIERS INTO JERUSALEM, ISRAEL. OSAMA BIN LADEN SHOULD COME TO POWER BEFORE 2012 ON THE EVE OF THE RUSSIAN INVASION OF ISRAEL. THIS MEAN LEADERS GULF COOPERATION CUNCILL WILL HAVE TO LEAVE THEIR COUNTRY WITHIN 3 YEARS FROM NOW. JAPAN GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT OR GNP IS ABOUT US 5,000,000,000,000 OR US$ 5 TRILLION DOLLARS. ARAB NATIONS GNP IS ABOUT US$ 5 TRILLION. THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA MUST BE ABLE TO HANDLE ALL THESE US$ 5 TRILLION DOLLARS FROM 22 ARAB NATIONS WITHIN THREE YEARS. ARAB POPULATION IS ABOUT 400,000,000 PEOPLE. 25% OF ARAB POPULATION IS ABOUT 100 MILLION SOLDIERS. IF WE BREAK 400 MILLION ARAB INTO FAMILY MEMBERS THEN THERE IS ABOUT 100 MILLION FATHERS, 100 MILLION MOTHERS, 100 MILLION BOYS AND 100 MILLION GIRLS. HENCE, ABOUT 100 MILLION ARAB FATHERS WILL BE GOING TO JERUSALEM FOR PILGRIMAGE. MUHAMMAD THE LEADER OF ISLAM WENT INTO HEAVEN FROM JERUSALEM, ISRAEL AND ALL 100 MILLION ARAB FATHERS WANT TO DO THE SAME. THEY WILL ALL GO TO JERUSALEM BY LAND, SEA, AIR AND UNDERGROUD. WE MUST REMEMBER THAT RUSSIA IS PLANNING TO SEND 40 MILION SOLDIERS, IRAN WILL SEND 20 MILLION SOLDIERS AND AFRO-AFRICAN WILL BE SENDING ABOUT 120 MILLION SOLDIERS INTO JERUSALEM, ISRAEL. AFRICAN HAS ABOUT 1,000,000,000 PEOPLE AND ABOUT 200 MILLION ARABS LIVE IN NORTH AFRICA WHILE 600 MILLION AFRO-AFRICAN LIVE IN WESTERN, CENTRAL, EASTERN AND SOUTHERN AFRICA. THERE ARE ABOUT 200 MILLION ARABS IN ASIA. HENCE, 20% OR 25% OF 600 MILLION AFRO-AFRICAN IS ABOUT 120 MILLION SOLDIERS. THE TOTAL WORLD POPULATION IS ABOUT 7,000,000,000 TO 8,000,000,000 PEOPLE AS WE REACH 2020 AD. HENCE, FOR EASY MATHS THERE ARE 2 BILLION FATHERS, 2 BILLION MOTHERS, 2 BILLION BOYS AND 2 BILLION GIRLS IN THE WORLD. WE MUST REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE 4 PARTS TO THE THIRD WORLD WAR NAMELY, PRESIDENT SADDAM HUSSIEN, PRESIDENT MIKHAIL GORBACHEV, PRESIDENT LI PENG AND EMPEROR JUAN CARLOS. ARAB EMPIRE LED BY PRESIDENT SADDAM PLAN TO INVADE JERUSALEM, ISRAEL BUT LOST IN 1991 AND 2001 BECAUSE ARAB NATIONS WERE DIVIDED BETWEEN PRO AMERICA BLOC, PRO EUROPEAN BLOC, PRO RUSSIA BLOC AND PRO THIRD WORLD BLOC?. RUSSIAN EMPIRE PLAN TO INVADE JERUSALEM, ISRAEL WITH 40,000,000 SOLDIERS IN 2012 AD. CHINESE EMPIRE PLAN TO INVADE JERUSALEM, ISRAEL WITH 200,000,000 SOLDIERS. EUROPEAN EMPIRE PLAN TO INVADE JERUSALEM, ISRAEL WITH 60,000,000 SOLDIERS. ANYWAY DURING THE RUSSIAN INVASION OF JERUSALEM, ISRAEL THERE COULD BE ABOUT 500,000,000 SOLDIERS FROM MANY NATIONS? AFTER RUSSIAN DEFEAT THE EUROPEAN NATIONS, CHINA AND OTHER NATIONS WILL SEND ANOTHER 500,000,000 SOLDIERS TO JERUSALEM, ISRAEL FOR THE LAST PART OF THE THIRD WORLD WAR. IT IS FUNNY THAT ABOUT 2 BILLION FATHERS PLAN TO VISIT JERUSALEM FOR THE LAST TIME BEFORE LORD JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD RETURN TO JERUSALEM IN 2020 AD. WHEN LORD JESUS RETURN TO HIS NEW TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM, ISRAEL THEN ALL UNCLEAN PEOPLE CANNOT ENTER THE HOLY CITY AS MENTIONED IN THE AMERICAN BIBLE. NOW YOU KNOW WHY ALL THE FATHERS IN THIS WORLD WANT TO VISIT JERUSALEM BY HOOK OR CROOK BEFORE LORD JESUS COME. LOOK LIKE 2 BILLION FATHERS WILL BRING THEIR M16, AK47 AND RAMBO KNIVES TO JERUSALEM, ISRAEL. 20 6 "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that its desolation is at hand. 21 Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. Let those within the city escape from it, and let those in the countryside not enter the city, 22 for these days are the time of punishment when all the scriptures are fulfilled. 23 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days, for a terrible calamity will come upon the earth and a wrathful judgment upon this people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken as captives to all the Gentiles; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles 7 are fulfilled. 25 "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. 26 People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens 8 will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (LORD JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD) THE BIBLE SAID THAT ABOUT TWO-THIRD OF THE ISRAELIS WILL DIE WHILE ONE-THIRD ISRAELIS WILL MOVE INTO THE 1,000 YEARS OF PEACE. SO IT LOOK LIKE ABOUT 4,000,000 ISRAELIS WILL DIE WHILE 2,000,000 ISRAELIS WILL MOVE INTO THE 1,000 YEARS OF PEACE. THESE MEAN THAT EVERY YEAR AN EVERAGE ABOUT 100 MILLION SOLDIERS WILL BE IN JERUSALEM, ISRAEL. GOD BLESS ISRRAEL. MR. ROBIN DONALD. KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA. DATE; 18TH, SEPTEMBER, 2010.

Chinese men advice
Chinese men advice?! :)?
So basically...I'm a Nursing Student and I'm graduating soon...my father takes Dialysis so after class I go with him because he can't go alone....in the dialysis clinic, there's alot of Asians nurses(guys)(Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, and Fillipinos)....there this particular Chinese Guy who I got interested in a few months ago after 2yrs of going to that clinic he is super cute and tall and well fit body:) he didn't look at me before when i started going there with my dad, but lately I've notice without him noticing that he looks at me alot when I'm not looking at him... A couple of days ago I brought a guy friend over in the clinic so he can see my dad and when I came in with him, I noticed that he was looking at me but he had a weird look on his face :-/ we haven't really talk much, but when i look at him he always smile so sweet at me...but I don't want to look at him because there's other people there and might think is weird... I've been ignoring him because I don't want to start any rumors of him or me:( he has noticed that I've been ignoring him...I don't want to ignore him because I really like him but I'm all confused and don't know what to do :( Just 2days ago, he found out from my dad that I speak fluent mandarin and cantonese and when my dad says something of me, he always tends to want to know:) How can I show him I like him without being too despreate? he is a pure Chinese guy...born and raised in china with a cute accent:) he speaks Spanish too;) I'm a mix race of Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Spain.... and i speak fluent Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, and English of course... I'm a very sweet, fun, loving person who always put everybody else first before myself ^.^ Advice please!!! And not stupid answers or racist please:(

You should check & make sure whether he already had a girlfriend or not.Because,(I'm not racist,-60% of my friends are chinese) but i think it is normal for chinese guys to date more than 1 girls at the same time.most of my chinese friends do.to them, the will have one real girlfriend that they will want to marry but they will consider other girlfriends as spare-part just for fun & happy hour. This just my view,i'm not racist..btw i also mix>Malay+Arab+chinese+jew

what is jessica's clinical summary
what is jessica's clinical summary?
Clinical Summary C N A Name: Jessica Hickingbottom Weeks of October 8-24, 2007 Clinical Assignment Area Brookhaven Nursing Home 1.What type of surrounding do most patients have in their rooms? Does it have anything to do with any of the disorders? List specific examples. (10 points) When I first walked into Brookhaven Nursing Home I felt very warm and welcome, but upon arriving in the first patients’ room I felt a sense of loneliness and despair. This man had no photos and no belongings, just machines all around him, including an oxygen machine by which his every breath depended on. I had a fear that every other resident was just the same. By the time my shift was over I had a totally different view. The second resident that I met was so happy to see me she just kept talking and talking. All around her room there were so many pictures. She was a diehard Elvis Presley fan and her room had every bit to show of it. On her night stand she had a framed picture of her and an Elvis impersonator signed by the man himself. She is a very lively lady and all she needed from me was a helping hand in the morning to get out of bed so she could grab her walker, which sat right next to the edge of her chair, just so she could move on with her day. Every time I walked into a residents room the first thing I would do was look around and see all of their things. One resident even had her very own motorized scooter ;I had been so used to pushing around wheelchairs that it was nice to see someone do it on there own. I noticed that most of the residents had a water jug in there room that was located on their bedside table. Some residents were not allowed to have water, I knew this because some of them had signs posted above their beds warning the CNA’s of certain things. Some signs would tell you not to give the resident water or to be gentle when lifting certain parts of their bodies, while other signs warned us where to put the laundry because their family does it for them. Other miscellaneous items such as night creams, extra pillows, special foot wraps, arm bandages, and denture cups led me to the obvious conclusion s of their needs. I really enjoyed rooms that were filled with things that represented where the resident had been or where they were from. One man had a wall filled with postcards and letters from pen pals of extraordinary trips he had taken in the past and friends that he had met along the way. Another resident that I had come across was originally from china. In her room she had sweet pictures of her grandchildren surrounded by paper fans and ancient Chinese quotes. Many of the residents had equipment in their rooms like walkers, wheelchairs, and lifts that aided them with their disabilities, but the residents that looked past that and decorated their rooms with pictures and memories of their younger years were the one’s I really enjoyed spending time with. 2.Name/identify (trade and generic) two drugs you observed being given. what method was used to give the drug? (10 points) Trade nameGeneric NameMethod UsedClassificationWhy it was given? How often it was given? Lantus Insulin GlarginIMInsulinDiabetes Every four hours GlucagonGlucagonIMInsulinSevere hypoglycemiaFour times every shift 3.Name as well as describe one procedure you preformed this week. (10 points) This week seemed to be a great time for me to give showers. I was just cleaning bodies from one patient to the next. By the time I had done my third shower I felt like it was the easiest task on hand. Showers started to change for me when I gained a new resident from moving to hall 300. To me it was a typical day, wake the resident, put them in the chair and roll them down to the shower room, all was fine until we started the actual shower. I uncovered the resident, started the shower, checking the temperature while the resident washed her face. I sprayed the water all around her body then I drenched the washcloth in soap and starting washing through the steps. During a normal routine cleansing of the perennial area the certain resident I was working on had a bowel movement and it took me by surprise. In the back of my mind I knew that this very thing could have happened at any time but I suppose I just didn’t expect it. The resident realized what she had done and knowing that she didn’t have any more control over what had happened than I did, I reassured her that everything was just fine. I continued on with perennial care and finished the shower. I knew that my resident was embarrassed and I felt bad about what had happened. I picked up the specimen with a used washcloth as the CNA had instructed to placing it at the bottom of the shower chair making it easier to dispose of. While back in the residents’ room, I gathered her clean clothes and a diaper. I dried off the rest of her body, particularly the hard to reach areas, armpits, peri, and underneath the breast. I started to apply her deodorant when I noticed something on the floor. She had accidently had another bowel movement when I had be drying her off. Just as before I grabbed another washcloth and covered the specimen placing it at the bottom of the chair. I wasn’t grossed out about what she was doing; it was all out of her control. I just wanted to let her know that everything was going to be ok since she was feeling so bad about it. It is part of my job to do these things, but more importantly my job is to comfort the residents and make them feel as positive as they should. 4.What affected you the most in your clinical area this week? (10 points) While working at the nursing home I really started to see how the residents feel. Most people avoid going to nursing homes because they dislike the smell or they think it is just a sad place to be, but all of this is not necessarily truthful. When I was working and connecting with the residents, listening to what they had to say it really affected me. So many people missed their families, which is what it all seemed to be about. Almost every conversation I had was about someone’s grandchild or a family Christmas photo that was on their nightstand. The resident’s felt that they were put in a home waiting to die while the one’s they loved went on. It made me sad when residents would say things like, â€Å“When I get better and I get out of this place, I’m going to go visit my sister in Colorado, or my grandkids in California.†I know as well as they do that they won’t be going, but somehow I believe when they tell themselves things like that it makes them feel better. Everyone needs a reason to live you can’t just sit around waiting to die. Some residents would take their feeling s out in anger, yelling at the CNA’s or refusing to eat .While others took it out in sorrow crying their eyes out at every memory of a passed loved one. While on hall 200 I met an amazing lady who was so happy and giggly everyday I worked with her. She would always tell my CNA of the dreams she had the previous night about her husband, and they would always be so sweet and lovely. I felt so sorry that her husband had passed ,but she is one the nicest people I’ve ever met, and when she spoke of her dreams she always had a smile on her face, almost as if her husband were sitting right next to her. She has come to terms of what her life has given her and that made me respect her even more. Some residents made it difficult and sad to work with them but knowing one day that they will all return back to be with the one’s they love make my job so much easier, 5.Copy below from the patient's chart a Doctor's Order and interpret the order. (10 points) Flu vacc 0.5 ml IM x 1 dose Give the resident 0.5 milliliters of the Flu vaccine intra muscular only one dose Check temp. Q shift x 72ÌŠCheck the residents temperature every shift for 72 hours (3 days) 6.Copy below from a patient's chart a Nurses Notes and interpret the order. (10 points) Cont. on flu fall-no delayed injury The resident is continuing to come off of the flu and there is no delayed injury Noted- denies any pain or discomfort The resident denies having any pain or discomfort 7.What do you feel that you need to improve on (skills, etc)? (10 points) When making beds at the nursing home I noticed that residents liked it done differently then the way we were taught. I got really nervous the first time my CNA had me make a residents bed , it was like I had forgotten all of the steps, I think I was just so nervous that my mind went blank. She had to show me all of the steps again like she was teaching me for the first time. I didn’t know that some of the residents liked their sheets folded in half because it makes the bed warmer and it took me a while to get used to that. Each resident seemed to prefer their beds made differently and it took me some time to memorize just the way they liked it. But the majority of the beds that I made were not like the skills we practiced in class. I just don’t feel like my bed making skills are up to par. I have been making so many beds by the residents request that I have forgotten how to make them the way I need to for my CNA test. I know that everything will be fine though, I have my procedural guidelines at home and a bed to practice on. As far as all of the other tasks go I think I have had enough practice and reading to excel. 8.Name two diets that different patients have. Describe. (10 points) Mechanical soft was one of the diets that I came across while working in the cafeteria. This diet consisted of foods that were all soft like eggs, juice, oatmeal, soft sausage, and gravy. A normal diet at the nursing home consisted of pancakes, syrup, eggs, cereal, oat meal, toast, or bacon. This is for residents who can eat easily or with the help of dentures. 9.Name some similar traits that most patients share. (10 points) When it was just the resident and I that were left to converse I felt like I got to know them more as a person than just a room number at Brookhaven Nursing Home. As I mentioned earlier many of the residents were similar in the fact that they were crazy in love with their families. Most of the time I wouldn’t talk much because I would ask a resident about a family member in a picture and they would go on and on .Some residents would just tell me before I even got a the chance to ask. What I love the most about the residents though is that they are all on a schedule, and many of them have the same schedule. Things like going to the bathroom in the mornings or watching a certain television program. This made it so much easier for me because I became accustom to their needs and we could both work together harmoniously, for instance while working on hall 200 there were two ladies who shared a room and also shared the same schedule. I loved seeing them because they made my day so much easier. They both woke up, went to the bathroom and ate at around the same time. They even had certain television shows that they would watch together, it’s almost like they were best friends roomed together. I also met some couples that were in the same room, and I thought that was one of the sweetest things. Most of them act quite similar because they are so used to being by each other side and that helped me out . 10. What is the most difficult thing that you had to do this week? (10 points) I would have to say that the most arduous task I performed this week was when I was assigned to feed a particular resident. Monday morning I was taking breakfast trays to the rooms as I usually do and occasionally I will have to feed residents their meal which is no problem. So when the CNA told me to feed this man I thought alright and headed back to his room. Upon entering I noticed that he was still sleeping so I woke him and raised his bed to a proper eating level. While setting up his tray I tried to start casual conversation with him and I noticed he wasn’t saying anything back so I spoke louder. After my attempts I assumed he was deaf so I began sign language and again no response. Knowing that not every deaf person knows signs I just began to point at breakfast items and show him what I was going to give to him. I took a spoonful of oatmeal and lead it toward his mouth, when all of a sudden he swats his hand at me yelling in Chinese and not wanting any part of what I was doing. It took me back a little because he hadn’t said a word and now he just wouldn’t stop. I pulled the spoon away and calmed him down. After he was settled I pointed at some more of the food items to see if he wanted them or not. Any time I tried to feed him something he would seal his lips and shake his head, after fifteen minutes he knew I wasn’t giving in and he finally ate his food. I just had a really hard time and I felt bad because, I didn’t know what he wanted or didn’t want. The communication barrier between us was so great that I felt lost. Even a persons body language is international and I still feel like he didn’t understand. I’m just so glad that he finally ate and everything worked out nicely.

Which of these families deserves government mortgage help
Which of these families deserves government mortgage help?
Please tell me which of the following families deserves government mortgage help: A. single mother with three kids. working, never married, child support erratic at best. bought a house in 2006 with a 5/1 ARM subprime loan. can't afford payments now that the introductory low interest rate is ending. B. married couple with two kids. both were working in 2005 when they bought a house using an alt-a loan. she lost her job in 2007 and her new one pays less. his self-employment business is slowing as his customers feel pinched and do without his service due to the "recession". two months behind on payments with reset to higher rate in November. C. married couple without children. Lost their house to foreclosure in 2007 after he was disabled in a work accident. Disability wasn't enough to continue making the payments after his medical costs soared. D. 83 year old widow. Owns her house free and clear, but can't afford the property taxes and insurance because houses in her neighborhood tripled in past ten years due to easy money loans and thus many buyers. Now can't sell as the market has crashed. Six months past due on property taxes. E. couple with two college age children who re-fi'd their house in 2006 to pay their childrens' tuition. Closed a 401k to make tuition payments in 2007 and borrowed from relatives to pay again this fall. House is 45 days past due but older child doesn't graduate until December 2010. F. Retired couple whose only regular income is small pension plus social security. Their retirement assets in stock market have taken a beating this year. Borrowed in 2004 against their house when he had a heart attack that caused his early retirement [which crippled his pension]. Rising costs of gas and food have made them 30 days past due and they have no way to catch up without further damaging their retirement assets. G. Manager and stay at home wife with two children in public school. He lost his job two years ago -- it was outsourced to China. Now works at Home Depot, but the money isn't 1/3rd of what he used to make. Still looking for that managerial job, which costs hundreds a month in extra costs. they've gotten their foreclosure notice and are thinking about filing bankruptcy to buy time. H. Market trader and retired wife who lost $125,000 when his short sales were arbitrarily ended by SEC order in this financial crisis. Hasn't made trading profit since last October. Now two months late and getting daily phone calls from mortgage servicing company asking for money he can't pay if he is ever to recover his losses in the markets. I. Retired couple who saved and planned out their retirement for last 25 years. Retired in 2007 owing nothing, but living off 401k payouts and social security. their assets are down 25% so far in this recession and they'll have to cut costs next year, which means short selling the house into increasingly bad market and paying bank off on the loss over next who knows how many years [if ever]. J. Sixty something widow whose assets were wiped out by husband's death via Alzheimer Disease and private nursing home for 4 years. Has only Social Security now as all their retirement assets except the house went to pay the nursing home. Took a mortgage in 2005 to pay off the husband's medical bills and burial. *** please tell me which, if any, of these families deserve government help in staying in their home or recovering their home. This question has no political point to make and is solely to gather information regarding what the Y!A public thinks America's public policy should be. While all of these situations are real to some family, I carefully crafted each of them to show a case where the people involved arguably are losing or lost their home because some other part of our economic system had a breakdown. In theory, none of these deserve government mortgage help, imo. Some of them needed either less or more government in some other part of their lives and because of that issue, were financially savaged to the point of losing their home. Afaic, the mortgage industry should NOT bear the brunt of other failures in America's systems -- doing so only distorts the economy even further. Did the mortgage industry have its own failures? YES. Mostly, they had a failure of spine. They didn't stand up to Congress and HUD in the 1990s when both needed to be told that their rules were requiring the banks to write bad loans that shouldn't have ever been made. Big government needed to be told "NO".

None of the above. Sorry but I don't want to work to pay for someone else's home. Most times these people bought a house they couldn't afford and thought they would just refi it later or make a ton when they sold it. Some have bought 2 and 3 homes so they could make two and three times more money.

None. Government isn't supposed to provide cradle to grave. Hotsauce. Dont be scared we have made it through harder times. We will be okay. It will be a little harder for a while.
3 :
The sick. The old. The single parents. That's it. Don't we all know someone or several people who would fit into any one of these categories. I AM SCARED. This country is headed for some tough times and there is nothing we can do but watch it happen.

Spare me your bleeding heart they should all get in a pit and fight and throw poo at each other like monkeys, that's if I am only being completely honest to your obvious question. I give your question the seriousness it deserves.

The sick.

Would this be considered distruction of property? Heart-wrenching story. :\?
My boyfriends mom was living with her boyfriend, and he's very controling and abusive. Well my boyfriends dad had a brain anurism (spelling) and now he's in a nursing home. my boyfriends mom got a call from the nursing home saying that he wasn't doing well, so she went up there. his moms boyfriend cut's hair and he had a schedule for her, she didn't show up but she texted him saying she was going to be late, he got mad so she called his mom to tell her she was on her way home. My boyfriends mom was suppose to come over for wedding planning stuff but she never showed up and when we called her, her phone was off. So we called her boyfriend, and he texted us and said "i can't make it" acting like he was her. Two days later we get a call from the hospital saying she was there. We drove up there and she was all bruised up, the doctor diagnosed her with Lacerations, and concussion, and contusions. Later she told us he wouldn't let her leave, he took her phone, and her car keys and kept her in the house for two days. That night the cops escorted us to the house so we could get all his stuff and get him arrested. But he wasn't there. We got all her stuff and realized he had broken all her deceased mother's china from all over the world, tore her clothes to shreads, cut the cords off of everything, and broke what was left. So she in return did the same thing to him, now he's sueing her for distruction of property even though she lived there?

What scares you so much about Socialism
What scares you so much about Socialism?
The second largest exporter in the world, Germany manages to give it's worker a minimum wage of $14.00 an hour, 6 weeks of paid vacation and free health care. And they are beating us at selling things to the Chinese. European social democracies -- particularly Germany -- have some lessons and models that might make life a lot more livable. Germans have six weeks of federally mandated vacation, free university tuition, and nursing care. But you've heard the arguments for years about how those wussy Europeans can't compete in a global economy. You've heard that so many times, you might believe it. But like so many things, the media repeats endlessly, it's just not true. According to Geoghegan, "Since 2003, it's not China but Germany, that colossus of European socialism, that has either led the world in export sales or at least been tied for first. Even as we in the United States fall more deeply into the clutches of our foreign creditors -- China foremost among them -- Germany has somehow managed to create a high-wage, unionized economy without shipping all its jobs abroad or creating a massive trade deficit, or any trade deficit at all. And even as the Germans outsell the United States, they manage to take six weeks of vacation every year. They're beating us with one hand tied behind their back." Whatever it's called, some people have it a lot better than we do http://www.alternet.org/world/148501/why_germany_has_it_so_good_--_and_why_america_is_going_down_the_drain/ Obaama:SOCIALIST COUNTRIES ARE BEATING THE US ON THE ECONOMY!!!! So I'm curious: Is Europe socialist or not? If it is, then why do liberals attack us for smearing Democrats as socialist when they want to implement economic policies common to Europe. "If you were educated, you would know America has plenty of socialism." Yep... Sure does. That's the problem. http://mises.org/daily/336 Of course...if YOU were educated, you would know that the only reason Germany thrived the way it did was from economic deregulation. Are you familiar with the term "Wirtschaftswunder?" Didn't think so.

And they have a high unemployment rate. A group in their country who they don't believe in. Who they don't care to educate or get them to become self-sufficient. I have higher expectations for my fellow Americans in the land of the free. But that's just me. ------------------------------- Their unemployment is not any higher than ours....now. Because we are becoming content with allowing people to live off the government. Liberals think compassion = voting for Democrats so they don't have to donate their own time and money. They can claim to be righteous without lifting a finger. Don't worry, we're on our way. You'll get your wish. -------------------------------- "From 1991 until 2010, Germany's Unemployment Rate averaged 9.73 percent reaching an historical high of 12.10 percent in March of 2005 and a record low of 7.30 percent in December of 1991" AVERAGED 9.73. Socialism requires a HARD court. Our courts easily order without the slightest complaint from our populations, millions to their deaths. THAT is the definition of a soft court. WE HAVE PUNKY WOOD, not IRON or even IRONWOOD, but ROTTEN CORK COURTS. Yes, that best describes legal traditions in the USA. It collapses almost in each and every case to the wills of ANY influence. And our police cannot generally be thought of as reliable in protecting their OWN, much less the boss when he gets in "over his head". Before WE DARE give that measure of power to our courts consider my life a cautionary tale: I was a game warden's deputy. I got shot. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DID IT. The local courts declared me insane. No compensation was offered. No records were kept THAT I CAN ACCESS. THEY can sell my ID at will, and COMPENSATE whomever THEY sell that ID too. There is evidence they have. Scars I had from those "good old days" were surgically removed in a PARK, without proper medical personnel or equipment. THE US ARMY KNOWS THIS. When I got back from Iraq, and had a pension set up, THERE WAS "an arranged accident", I lost an arm "due to infection". THE ARMY KNOWS THIS. THEN there was another "arranged accident", after this I had memory loss, and a left arm. Does the US Army know this? I doubt it. I met a guy recently on the same type of vehicle I used to drive (all very very rare for a guy with one arm to be driving a scooter, but I used to do this ~ it was the same type and model and color with even the same kind of tape on it, holding the broken plastic together). HE LOOKED JUST LIKE ME, including the missing arm. I'd be willing to bet allot of real money (if I had it), that the US ARMY is paying that fellow my pension and granting him my rights otherwise. Junkies don't care if they are missing an arm. Many drug dealers are junkies. We are currently in a war on drugs. I was in drug interdiction. It kinda looks like my missing pension was "put to good use" from the point of view of a junky punky wooden head judge. Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet allot of good money, if I still had it, that the original infection did not result in the loss of my arm, but rather "politics" did. I'd say given the evidence it's more than likely the arm was "saved" for other, more organized criminally politically correct, from Al Qa`ida's limited point of view, "propaganda" uses. There was a guy I shot in the hand when a police officer in New York. He had been shooting cops as a "LARK". I was either he and his partner's 8th or tenth policeman / policewoman / victim. BUT I shot back, even with five bullet wounds I shot back. I met this guy in the park. He had a missing arm. It was his left arm. Which major should I pick- International Studies or Registered Nursing
Which major should I pick- International Studies or Registered Nursing?
I've been interested in east Asia for years. It started in 8th grade and progressed over the years into the music, culture, movies, fashion, etc of Japan, China, and South Korea. I am now 18 going on 19 so it's been a while and it isn't just a fleeting thing. Since I was a child I've wanted to be a nurse. Even now I enjoy cleaning/dressing wounds. I wonder if I want to major in International Studies with a minor in Asian Studies. I want to teach English in Asia for a 1+ years after I get my Bachelor's (the degree can be any subject). Then I'd like to maybe get my Master's and teach Asian history/culture at the uni level here in America. If I became a RN, would that 1+ years away affect my remembrance/skills as a nurse? Would I have to do self-study during that time? I'd like to travel, how is vacation time for RNs? What is the market for a prof. of Asian studies here? Does it depend on where you live? Also, what other careers would a Intl. Studies major be good for?

I have been a RN for 4 years now, and i have been looking into a job as a traveling RN. They are really needed in a lot of hospitals, and the pay is amazing. You would be silly to go into international studies instead of an RN. because RN's make way more money than you would ever make. You also get a lot of amazing befits if you are a well liked nurse. our doctors are rich, and they gave all of the nurses wonderful gifts (massages by professionals, and a 200$ raise) The job is awarding in the long run.

OMG Nursing! international studies will have you living ta home with your folks until you are 50. Look at school with a vocation in mind. Nursing rocks

If nursing appeals to you that much, then I would say that you are not going to be happy unless you are a nurse. Why not be an international/traveling nurse?

Could I still teach English abroad if I majored in registered nursing
Could I still teach English abroad if I majored in registered nursing?
I'm going into my junior year of university and I plan on majoring in registered nursing. I have a huge interest in East Asia so I was thinking of teaching English in maybe Japan or Hong Kong after I get my Bachelor's, although I wouldn't mind South Korea or China. Anyway, I just want to know, if I went away for a year or two to teach English would that effect my skills and what I remember as a nurse? I plan on going as soon as I finish my degree so I'm just worried that I'll forget a lot of what I learned in university and I'll end up needing to go back to school. So, does it seem feasible to major in nursing and go away to teach English for a year or two? If so, would doing self-study while I'm away help me to remember? Or should I just give it up and travel after I get my career going? I realize that there isn't really a concrete answer that can be given to this type of question but I would just like some opinions. Thanks. :-) By the way, I already know that you can major in anything and still teach English. That's not my question. Please read it carefully. :-)

That sounds reasonable.

Depends on the type of learner you are. I learned algebra, but after three years of not using it, I had to take a math course that needed algebra skills, I pretty much had to reteach myself in a crash course.
3 :
I 'think' an English Refresher Course would HELP! English is a Quirky Languange....Synonyom, Antonyms, Homonyms, Silent letters, i before e except....etc....lol...lol... Proper Grammar......Be ready to laugh a lot and TONS of Questions.... Good Luck!
4 :
It sounds like a great idea. You'll have to work on retaining your knowledge, but in doing that, you'll probably end up the better nurse. The other nurses will zoom through, then their knowledge will start fading away a lot faster than yours. I say if you can do it, do it. It will be a great experience, and you'll come back a more mature student (hopefully!). You'll have a whole added dimension to your way of thinking which can only benefit you. People will think you're so cool in Japan if you're studying to be a nurse. People will also think you're so cool on return to university, for having been in Japan. (Or wherever else). Bye.
5 :
YEs, as long as you have your Bachelors you can teach.

Why not teach in China. With the trading going on between China and the USA we need more English speaking Chineese. Speaking from having clients in China, either I need to learn Chineese or they need to learn English.

This old man's son is STEALING his SSI Funds! What to do
This old man's son is STEALING his SSI Funds! What to do?
I volunteer at a nursing home and right now this old man is receiving monthly SSI funds and other kind of funds from the government. (He was a taxpayer, US Citizen, and now retired). However, a few years ago, he was very sick and decided to let his son manage his funds, so he transferred his monthly payments from the government to his son. Now, this old man wants to return to China and has recovered from his illness so he asks his son for his money back. His son replies "In Your Dreams." Apparently, his son wants to keep the money and is willing to let his own father die unwillingly in the US. I know that it is nearly impossible to get the money back already, but it is possible to stop the monthly payments from the son and back to the old man. What kind of services is available for this? A Social Worker? I already left a note for the nurse and the social worker, who only works on weekdays :(. Anyways, any suggestions/help is gratefully accepted. Thanks.

the only way his son can legally be getting his money is he is the rep payee. even then the money has to be used for the father. contact the local social security office, if the father volunteered the son as payee all he has to do is tell them he no longer wants checks to go to son. also inform social security of the missing money. as a payee you have to have an accounting (receipts, etc.) of how you spent the money. if there is any left it must be returned. social security will go after the son if he missuesd his fathers funds. call them immediately.
2 :
You took the right step by leaving the note for the social worker and nurse. now be dogged and follow up. Make sure they are taking this seriously. The police need to be called, but you as a volunteer are probably not in a position to do that. But you can continue to bring this issue up with the nurse and social worker to be sure they take it seriously.
3 :
phone the police
4 :
Call Adult Protective Service. You can remain anonymous and they will investigate eventually.
5 :
Help the old fellow to at least get the incoming money transferred back to himself. You are on the right track and you have a good heart. Be persistent and follow up with calls, always ask for supervisors to get your inquiry to the right person. Call the US Department of Labor - Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration. Toll-free Hotline: 1.866.444.EBSA Do it for the Old Timer. God Bless You
6 :
TURN THE ROTTEN S.O.B. IN!!! and be more aggressive in contacting government folks. go to the soc sec office and explain the situation.

What are my chances of getting into U Penn College of Arts and Sciences
What are my chances of getting into U Penn College of Arts and Sciences?
I want to go to U Penn to study math. I moved from China to Canada two years ago, so U Penn is need-blind to my application, but I still need to take TOEFL SAT: 2100 (I took it again yesterday. I guess I'll get 2150) SAT II: Math Level II 800, Physics 800 and Chemistry 800 TOEFL iBT: 109 Rank: about 5/400 EC(not very good): Tutored a total of three students in math in Grade 10 and 11 Volunteered at many local organizations (like nursing home, soccer club, library etc) for a total of 300 hours Math Club member (Grade 10 to 12) Trivia Club member (Grade 11 to 12) Free the Children Committee(a committee helping children in Africa) member (Grade 12) Student Council member (Grade 9 to 10) Participated in Shad Valley(a prestigious science+entrepreneurship camp in Canada) Participated in the International Mathematics Tournament of Towns Summer Conference in Russia (I was one of the three students from Canada) Awards: I got the first place in Canada in a not very important math contest (Hypatia Contest) Third place in Canada in a online math contest (Math@Mac Online Competition) Eighth in Canada in a chemistry contest (Avogadro Examination) I took the AMC 10 and AIME in China in Grade 8 and got 9 out of 15 on AIME. I was invited to USAMO but couldn't participate. My school said that that year, only 23 students across the world in Grade 8 were invited to USAMO. I am wondering if my exam scores and EC are too bad for Penn. Also, will my achievement in the math contests increase my chances (since I want to study math)? GPA: Grade 9 and first half of Grade 10(in China): 96/100 Second half of Grade 10 and Grade 11(in Canada): 93/100 I don't know what my GPA is on a 4.0 scale. Also, I'm taking IB at my school, and it's the most challenging program available(we have no APs).

its a crapshoot. itll depend on your essay and recs. My cousin was #3 in her class at a very prestigious suburban high school in NY and had similar test scores as you and got rejected from UPenn, UCLA, USC, Washington & Lee and Tufts. It's extremely competitive to get into ivys, liberal arts or california schools. She's at Michigan now, which is a great school but not as competitive as the rest. Go for UPenn but apply to some of the following as backups (they are excellent programs that'll get you $$$ but are less competitive because of their massive size): Michigan University of Texas University of Wisconsin Penn State University Georgia Tech (prob the best public school next to Cal in my opinion - although USNews usually puts UVA, Michigan and UNC above them) U of Pittsburgh, Purdue, Illinois, University of Washington, Texas A&M - (great if youre sure about math/sci/engr) GUARENTEED ADMISSION WITH SCHOLARSHIP (for your stats): LSU University of Colorado NC State Florida State

What are my chances of getting into a good college in CA
What are my chances of getting into a good college in CA?
I'm currently a junior in a blue ribbon, california distinguished school that is known for being very competitive & high achieving. Grades so far: Freshman: English: A / A World Cultures&Geography/Social Issues: A / B+ (1 semester each, respectively) Honors Geometry: A / A Integrated Science 1/2: A / A Beginning Drama: A / A Mandarin: A+ / A PE 1/2: A / A- Introduction to Computers: A (weighted GPA: 4.07) Sophomore: Honors Advanced Algebra: A- / C Integrated Science 3/4: A / B Intermediate Drama: A / A PE 3/4: A / A English 3/4: A- / D- AP European History: A- / B Mandarin 3/4: A+ / A (weighted GPA: 3.79) Junior: Poetry: A Advanced Drama: A Precalculus: B Chemistry: A- Stagecraft: A AP US History: B- Mandarin 5: A (weighted GPA: 3.86) 10-12 academic weighted GPA: 3.79 ***note: This year i am taking a challenging English course at the local community college to replace the D I got in English second semester of my sophomore year. I predict I will get an A-/B+. Also, I have a reason for the severe drop in grades in my 2nd semester sophomore year, but i don't know if colleges would want me to explain this hardship, and i don't want to seem like i'm "giving an excuse" if you know what i mean. SAT score: 2060 (700 critical reading, 660 math, 700 writing) haven't taken any SAT subject tests yet, but i predict the scores will be in the 600 range. (out of 800). I plan to take US History, Mandarin, Math 2, Math 1, and Literature. Semester-long Internship at hospital. Participated in a 14-day long community service program in Sichuan, China benefiting the victims of the 2008 sichuan earthquake. in total, about 500 hrs of community service from various events. <-- how much is that? a lot? a little? how much community service do most ppl have? Extra-curriculars: my main extra-curricular activity is drama which i have been very involved in, starring in my schools musicals, plays, acting as banquo in macbeth, etc, also doing a lot of tech work. member of badminton club, knitting club, asian club. i have been a peer tutor in freshman & sophomore years, where a lot of my community service hours came from. throughout sophomore year, i have also been tutoring children in mandarin. being a model and winning a beauty pageant, in doing so i have participated in many events benefiting the chinese-american community. i'm not sure if this is relevant but i have also been through many hardships in my life including immigrating to the US at the age of 2 from china and frequently moving to different parts of the country, parents divorce, being kidnapped, sexual assault at young age, house completely burning down, depression, and overcoming all of them. <-- should i mention these??? Nursing will be my major. and i am asian... which probably hurts my chances, especially because I live in CA, where I want to go to college.

your stats seem decent but i wish you took more honors/ap classes cause those look amazing but you have decent grades I would recommending hitting the UC schools like davis and all (idk what the other ones are) i would try Berkley and if you really wanted to stanford, they choose 5% of their accepting class from california alone being asian does not put you at a disadvantage, schools cannot discriminate according to race but they can according to geography (example if you are from the mid-west you are more likely to get into brown university than if you are from the california new york area- assuming you are compared to a student who has the same exact stats as yours and are weighted the same) but i would recommend davis, and berkely and perhaps stanford (just warning you that their application fee is $95 for a school that accepts less than 10% of a 30-40,000 applicant pool- yeah kinda ridiculous they get about a million dollars just in application fee and and 93% of them get rejected anyways.. and these are kids with 36s on act and 5.0 gpa with 1,000 hours of community service and all) you cannot really pinpoint one thing that will for sure get you into your college
