Why is the media set on bashing china?
I started noticing china bashing right before the olympics in beijing. The media continually mentioned the Tibet March against china, and made it their feature story for several days. It kept showing the protests and it didn't even actually explain what the reason was for this march. the media just pretty much made it seem like it was china's fault, which it was really not. It was a random act of rebellion from Tibet. Propaganda at its best. Everyone who believes in it is a victim of brainwashing. March Riot in Tibet was another plot to get the western population to hate China. Dalai Lama visited the U.S. not too long before it took place. Mobs burn down shops, cars, beating Han Chinese to death. Yet western anti-china propaganda made it look like the other way around. And then when the olympics really came around, the media, after finishing their sports coverage, started showing the pollution, CDI and traffic. It actually said the pollution was at lethal levels, but they are totally incorrect. I returned to China a year or so ago and there was nothing wrong with the air. i haven't seen a single person get sick or even be affected at all by this so called "lethal pollution" and it showed the traffic and all the people crowded there, but never did it show the chinese spirit, or any of the AMAZING food they serve. I am serious the food they have is amazing. everywhere I go i see restaurants serving tasty food. plus, everyone is set on bashing communism, when really, a government is good as long as it works and allows its population to live happily. And you know what, democracy isn't all that its cracked up to be. Think about it. Can you really trust the general population of America to make a real educated decision about politics that they cannot keep up with? Democracy works in the beginning, but the longer a democratic society goes on, the less voting spirit people have. Think about it. Do you really even bother when it comes to voting on some boring law that probably won't affect you at all? Communism in some people's minds is just an image of people dying and fire and explosions everywhere. the corrupted communist governments are giving us Chinese a bad reputation. i bet you that the majority of people in China are satisfied with their country. It won't really make a difference whether or not china switches to democracy, and you know what, I can guarantee you that if that happens, a sizable amount of people won't even bother to vote and leave it to the government anyways. and you know what? I'd rather to return to China and be with my family, good food and nice people ... *Sigh* problem is, I have been here since I was 2, so even though I can speak chinese, I cannot read or write it. Therefore, I am trapped here. Once, I got sick, and I had to wait over 5 hours in a hospital, and I still didn't get in. Nobody cared. they just wrote down your appointment, made you sit down for hours, and then when you decide to leave, they make you sign a form saying "I have left the hospital against the advice of the nurse." In china, it may be expensive, but it pays off in the end. better health care. better education. better food. better roads. when I got sick in a chinese hospital, you just waited for 10 minutes, they treated you immediately, instead of making you wait in the room for ANOTHER HOUR, and in a few minutes you were ready to go, prescription and all.

Brain washing by western Media? I DON'T THINK SO ! At least people in west has option to which media to believe and which to not. You may not know this but We living in West are not forced fed w/ repeated lies by our government. The media here also run coverage that are anti us gov't and journalist has right to point out false in our government. Where as in China ALL MEDIA has to be inline w/ the Communist Party's. This is what is called a hypocrisy. China's single party that is the communist party and its "patriotic" uninformed youth only lashes out when they are realized to be seen as the oppressor. And claim that is not true. When it comes to Japanese oppresion of Chinese, they are always attacked with intense verbal abuse. But Chinese cannot see the fact that its communist government has done great injustice upon Tibetan since 1959, they are quick to response with attacks such as "Tibet was never a free country" and "Dalai Lama is an evil person" etc etc... To those Chinese, i ask you why haven't Tibetans stop fleeing their homeland and become refugees in India, nepal, bhutan and everyelse? If Tibetans are treated well in their own homeland, why take the life and death risk to cross himalayas and ultimately into Exile? it is with great unfortunat that Tibetans flee because to find freedom in Exile. If a nation like China is so benevolent towards its small minority like Tibetan then there is no need for Tibetan to flee their homeland and become refugees. One need not look any further then to the nonstop/continues fleeing of Tibetan refugees since 1959 paints a clear picture of the predicament of Tibetans under Beijing. The recent March protest in Tibet, did not just happen in Lhasa but all over Tibet, in Amdo and Kham(now annexed into Chinese province), and even in Beijing's national minority university. Beijings "Re-education" has not helped China into assimilating Tibetans into mainstream Han culture in the last 50 some years, then it will surely in future no matter how strong Beijing's great firewall is because it is the age of information and human nature is such that we are all always looking for ways to seek the truth from facts. As a Tibetan refugee, to me, the reality is far grim and thus different than what Beijing and mainlanders would like to tell the world. Our predicament has only gotten worst since 1959, to be more accurate since 1949. Somnos : "Tibet belonged to China historically and even though they want some freedom they do belong to China. Its like some people want Alaska to break off from the US, it doesn't make much sense to me. Having said that they don't have freedom of religion, because they think that would be subversive to their political structure, and I have a problem with that." - Tibet never was part of China, until it was invaded in 1949 and fully invaded in 1959 when Chinese "liberation army" bombarded and killed many people in Tibetan Capital city Lhasa. We want freedom from Chinese brutal occupation ! from Chinese government and its cruel policies/regulation on our lives !!!! on the side note: Alaskan people are not oppressed like we are ! "Tibet remaining part of China is fine as long as people get the right to choose their religion. Having said that the Dalai Lama, doesn't need to be looking for an autonomous region of power." - But the issue at hand is that China have been Treating Tibetans as second class citizen, and also the Repressive nature of China towards Tibetan has not stopped eversince it invaded Tibet 50+ yrs ago. My people continue to flee our country Tibet, even to this day ! but the sad fact & truth is even when we flee we are still hunted down and shot ! (NangPa La Shooting )

I'm not an authority on the subject, but I agree with you. China is constantly bashed in the US for several reasons, generally geo-political from what I gather. The US news likes to call China communist as well, though by definition. Communism is an idealized form of socialism developed by Karl Marx. China is in fact socialist, with market economics in its green areas, like Shanghai. Tibet belonged to China historically and even though they want some freedom they do belong to China. Its like some people want Alaska to break off from the US, it doesn't make much sense to me. Having said that they don't have freedom of religion, because they think that would be subversive to their political structure, and I have a problem with that. Tibet remaining part of China is fine as long as people get the right to choose their religion. Having said that the Dalai Lama, doesn't need to be looking for an autonomous region of power. Taiwan is also Chinese. Most Americans don't like to recognize this, naturally because of propaganda. The people there speak Mandarin, and as I've understood it, the US doesn't want China to claim Taiwan, because that would give China access to strategic oil supplies in the coastal domain of Taiwan. As for the healthcare system. I'm not sure if China's is better, some European countries are better though (notably France, Germany, Sweden). In the US your insurance payments go to a company that covers the costs, and then skims off interest for themselves, while in European countries the base insurance everyone gets, that is if you don't have private insurance, simply covers the costs, and there's no middleman making money. In the US even medicare and medicaid have middlemen, because both of those are actually contracted by private companies, whom the government pays exorbitant amounts of money.
