Honestly, regardless of your political party, do you feel the USA is going to get better again

Honestly, regardless of your political party, do you feel the USA is going to get better again?
It seems like 1/2 of everyone I know is unemployed, underemployed, underpaid(severely--talking 85k down to 30k), or working odd jobs to barely make rent/survive. I know engineers, nurses, accountants, etc. who cannot land a job and my heart aches, because I am in a similar position and working a part-time office job for only $10/hr, here in NYC. That may sound somewhat decent, but trust me..it's not. I am only lucky enough to be catching a break from my fiance's parents. We live in their basement! Both of us are trying to finish our Bachelors, I already have my LPN license, and we are making use of this advantage, and I think..gosh..even I feel the burn of this economy. I can only imagine people with children/families. In ALL reality..give me your brutal honesty..do you think the USA will ever recover from this terrible depression, and if so, how long do you think it will take and how exactly will it happen? I can't help but seeing China as this super force and all these other countries that have some type of "goodie" to offer...we don't seem to have ANYTHING that's in demand :-/. ..and since times are hard, I know even MORE of us are buying from China and other cheap foreign countries..I mean, everything is literally made in China. It's crazy.

Are you serious??? Go talk to your parents about the early 80's little girl. And if they weren't old enough talk to grandma and grandpa ^^lol that's the fucking coolest thing I've seen on here a pooh bear made from keyboard characters!! holy sh!t

yes now that one party is no long in Control things will get bettor

I think all the world will be worst and worst, honestly, and at the bottom will be actual (still) powers : US, EU etc.

Yes things will likely improve. I am older and lived through times of higher unemployment, higher inflation, etc. It was bad waiting in long lines for your limit of 5 gallons of gas during the Carter years. And when you finally got up to the pump the station ran out, and your car ran out. There have been worse times. The younger generation just hasn't seen it.

Yes, the more we buy from China makes it even worse on our national economy. Maybe a cold war with that hybrid monstrosity would be good. The only ones benefitting from our relation with that monster are U.S. Corporatists.Yes, it does seem that more than likely they would support Republican policies.Let's talk some truth, we are more dependent on China than IT is on us.I have heard so many members on this site that China is dependent on US for its economy to stay healthy. We depend on China for ours to stay sour?We need more trade regulations, more corporate regulations, not fewer. I am mad too.

No. I think it will level off after much loss in this country but without our manufacturing base, we are a service economy. Services were never paid as well as manufacturing. It could return after we can be competitive with the 3rd world countries which will either be the result of our collapse or after many years of decline. That sounds so strange. The UN doesn't want resources to be used except for absolute necessities. There is an effort to minimalize life activities on this planet. Even our own government does not talk about restoring prosperity. They talk about living a more minimalistic life. I have never heard that in all my 63 years of living in this country. Without consumerism, many will be unemployed or working for the government in a service capacity. This country has indeed been fundamentally transformed. All Western nations are experiencing the same thing. Its a matter of spreading the wealth. Read UN Agenda 21 signed by George HW Bush in 1992 and by well over 100 other countries. Know your future. Its the New World Order.

Sorry, the American century is over. Welcome to the new normal.

If you are a nurse, check out the calls for people who know medical terminologies, a working knowledge of computers, any typing ability (good spelling a MUST), and can actually read doctors' handwritings (lol), because a job that pays around $60,000 to start is being advertised often for changing the nation's paper-laden medical records to computer-generated reports. If you look in your city's Yellow Pages under "Management," there should be a whole slew of firms listed who do NOT go through regular channels for finding qualified management personnel. Choose only those firms where the COMPANY pays any fees and some even pay relocation expenses as well. A few will help you with your resume, even. They prefer college-educated candidates who have worked in some sort of supervisory capacity (even if only managing one or two employees). As to the United States "getting better"---There are signs everywhere that this nation is edging towards a full recovery at every level. Employment was harmed by the GOP's penchant for massive OUTSOURCING of all our manufacturing jobs, but even this has been addressed by both the Obama administration and the Democrats in both the House and the Senate. How? The Republicans' foolish subsidies and tax breaks for companies who move their entire operations overseas have now been ended, and replaced with subsidies and tax breaks for companies that relocate or set up on American soil. Commonsense. In addition, if you check out the whitehouse.gov website, you will discover quite a few resources and positive actions underway for people such as yourself, working Americans. The rebuilding of our lost manufacturing base is well underway, too...see recovery.gov for details on the more than 40 states with new alternative-energy plants in operation---part of President Obama's "Green-Energy" technologies initiative that will eventually wean us off of foreign oil and onto earth-friendly renewable fuels (solar or wind-powered, water-powered, etc.). You might find jobs available in these new fields that are high-paying. This might also be an area where you'd like to make some investments, because the values will escalate over time. Chrysler (a car company we lent money to keep alive) has now moved its 800# Customer Service operations back onto American soil, setting up in both Utah and Michigan (and hiring Americans again). GM is hiring, and they now are selling their shares on Wall Street. You might consider returning to college as well. Pell Grants have been INCREASED under the Obama and Democratic team, and as part of the new Affordable Care Act (health care and insurance reforms) and its "Fix It" addendum, college students can now cut tuition costs by making DIRECT loans through the Department of Education instead of using high-interest banks as middlemen. On the health care reforms, check out cnn.com/healthcare or the whitehouse.gov sites.

Things will get better. The economy has already been stopped from it's free fall and has begun to recover. Employment always lags behind, but will begin to improve shortly too. We are in the most serious recession since the 30's and recovery will be very slow. From what I've read, we can't expect real progress on the employment front for another 4 or 5 years. You, however, are in the enviable position of preparing for a job that is in demand and will be even more so in the future. Many Americans will never regain the earning power they once had and will have to settle for much less. Their lives will never be the same. The biggest problem with the recovery and with America's immediate future is the tremendous debt, both public and private, that we've racked up over the past thirty years. Because the federal government is so far in the hole, their number one strategy of borrowing and spending money to stimulate the economy during recession, had to be greatly tempered. Although a stimulus package was instituted, it wasn't enough to cause a quick recovery. Also, the middle class borrowed greatly, especially in the past ten years, in order to maintain their standard of living since wages, adjusted for inflation have decreased. They are now paying off that debt instead of purchasing consumer goods and services in the same volume as before. America has been on a spending spree which now must be payed back. The wealthy have been doing quite well however. Their net worths and income have risen significantly over the past thirty years, and with the recent Supreme Court decision that allows corporations to give unlimited amounts secretly to political campaigns, the wealthy are in no danger of legislation which levels the playing field to pre-Reagan days. (They currently pay a less percentage of their incomes in taxes than working class Americans) Therefore, unless you are in the top five percent of wage earners, you can expect your income to continue decreasing slowly. The good news is that 95% of us will be in this boat together so that it won't be so greatly noticed, nor so painful as it is now.

In your situation you could improve your lot by moving where the local economy is much more diverse than NYC and the east coast in general. The south has more to offer because it's base is not in manufacturing and other industry's tied to the problem of our massive, massive debt to China. While the economy here(TN) is not robust by any means but it is overwhelmingly better than the Northeast. If I wanted a job here I could find one-not anything career building-but they are here. Our unemployment numbers are high mainly because they are dragged down by the closed Saturn plant. A quick check of the Sunday paper shows over 100 LPN positions. When I was much younger during the Reagan years you could find 5 full time jobs in one afternoon if you wanted to. My biggest problem back then was finding workers-as hard as it is too believe today we never had enough employees. As far as the USA recovering, as you say, the answer is crystal clear what needs to happen-and someday it will one way or the other. We must pay down our massive debt which overburdens every single part of our economy. You can toss blame hither and tither and up and around but all comes back to the something-we must cut entitlements for the nation to survive. As an example-a friend sent me pictures of the aftermath of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans-they were mind-blowing in their scope. Recently, he sent me pictures of the same areas and lo and behold-nothing has changed one bit. The massive destruction is still there. 190 billion dollars has been pumped into this area-and it's been spent. That in a nutshell is what must be stopped for this economy to recover. sp

YES we could however this is going to be the deciding factor. "MORE of us are buying from China and other cheap foreign countries..I mean, everything is literally made in China." We as a country would have to stop the purchase of "cheap foreign goods" as much as possible and make a point to buy American Made whenever possible. I am not criticizing you as almost all of us a guilty of purchasing "cheap foreign goods", however the more ALL Americans buy cheap goods from China and other foreign countries the worse we(the US) will get and the incentive & our ability to restart our manufacturing will get weaker. Globalization has turned out to be our enemy as we have always had the lead in technology and we are starting to see the loss of that. What we have to get away from is "cheap foreign goods". If anyone has noticed they are not as "cheap" as they use to be. I never thought I would be saying or even consider thinking this but it probably is true. If we were to use isolationism on trade or a 25-30% tax on imported products that would raise the price of imports to a point where if the same product was made in the US we could compete. As crazy as isolationism sounds it would force us to restart our manufacturing ASAP and recover faster as only US made products would be available. Then any imported product we are already use to would become a potential "NEW" product to manufacture here ASAP. It would also require our laws to prevent monopolies. It would require that only American owned companies be involved in this to keep the money in the US economy. I remember when this all started and hearing people say that buying low quality imports would never affect thier job but it did catch up with them. The popular term I picked up back then and still use is "china crap"

GCSE English. Is this story half decent? Please can you check it? What grade will I get?
I blocked all sound out as I walked down the clean white intimidating walls of the hospital corridor. My trainers squeaked like a large family of rodents running away in fear from their ferocious flying feathered enemy. I looked down to take in as much detail as possible. I wanted to remember everything I could. It was an important day in my life. I could tell as soon as I woke up this morning. The floor of the long corridor was speckled orange as if someone had splattered it with paint. Attempting joyful creativity but failing as this was a place of death and torture for some people. I knew it was for me. I couldn’t even imagine what it must be like for Lilly. “She’s just through here” announced the nurse. My knees knocked together with nerves. I didn’t know if I wanted to see what was behind those brightly coloured patterned curtains. It all seemed so fake. Nothing seemed real any more. It’s the type of thing that happens in films. Not my life. I never thought it would happen to me. I pulled back the ugly colourful curtain and was shocked with what I saw. Lilly was as pale as a sheet lying in the white hospital bed. Almost lifeless, except from her chest slowly moving every second or so. The beeping from monitor echoed continuously around the small room. Lilly’s mum was a statue as I gasped. She didn’t notice anything apart from the zombie of my best friend in the hospital bed. Lilly’s skin was so pale; she looked like a china doll. “You have five minutes, then you’ll have to leave” Lilly’s mum let out a sob. How was I going to do it in five minutes? What if it was the last time I’ll ever see her? I wanted things to go back to the way they were before. I wanted to tell her all the gossip. I wanted to go to the beach with her. I wanted to go shopping with her. What if nothing like that ever happened again? I didn’t want to imagine it. The future was too dark to think about. Right now was where I should be keeping my mind, with Lilly. I needed to concentrate. Maybe if I talked to her, like I usually do. She’ll wake up and everything will be back to normal. “Lilly?” My voice was croaky from not talking in hours. I had to think about what I was going to say. What would wake her up? I remember when we first met; we were both eight. Our hair was in bunches and our front were teeth missing I recall as I reminisce about our old school class photo. She had just moved here from Manchester and everyone was teasing her because her accent was different to all the others children’s. I told them to back off but she said she didn’t need me to stand up for her. She told me she didn’t need to depend on anyone; it’s ironic now as she’s depending on a machine to breath for her. Then after school we were in the cloakroom, she saw my school bag had S Club 7 written on it. She asked if I liked them, I told her I loved them. She smiled a toothy grin and told me she loved them as well. Somehow despite our differences we got closer and closer over the years. We were inseparable. Until that red ford fiesta knocked her down. I awoke from my reminission as I heard a long beep. I knew this wasn’t good news straight away. The monitors beeped uncontrollably. The doctors and nurses pushed me and Lilly’s mum out of the way. “I’m sorry you’re going to have to leave”, the nurse exclaimed. Lilly’s mum screamed. It pierced my ears. Not just the pitch but the emotion in the scream. They gathered around Lilly’s bed like ants surrounding a dropped piece of fruit. The last beep lasted a lifetime. I knew she was gone.

It gets better as you (meaning you as the author) get into. It seems like in the beginning your trying to get into the story too. Try writing some paragraphs before where you started that way you'll already be in it. The only problem I have with it is in the beginning. There's no emotion in it and the line about the rodents has got to go. Those kinds of lines have to be compact. Happy Trails

Not Great, but pretty good. Fine points remission, not reminisssion. colorful, not colourful Personally I would streamline this piece by making war on dative clauses, prepositional phrases, adverbials and passive verbs. YOURS: My voice was croaky from not talking in hours. I had to think about what I was going to say. MINE: My voice croaky from talk, I gave thought to what I should say. The most important thing is to keep on writing. Also keep in mind, sometimes creative writing requires one to bend the rules. I say this last bit because you are "this" close to doing flow of thought writing; especially at the start.

Anyone read Life is funny? please help

Anyone read Life is funny? please help!!!!?
had to write short summary for hw about the book I read, wanted to know if it sounded okay, THANK you. Life is Funny is about eleven teenagers in Brooklyn, NY. They are all from different backgrounds and races; each deals with many problems that intertwine over a period of seven years. Their lives are full with relationships, family problems, alcoholic and abusive parents, drugs, and violence. The eleven teenagers are China, Eric, Monique, Drew, Grace, Mickey, Ebony, Sonia, Gingerbread, Keisha, and Sam. The story starts off with China. She is friends with Grace and Ebony, and eventually becomes friends with Sonia. To deal with the pain of missing her dad, Ebony cuts herself. China is the one who keeps bothering her to stop. Drew is very rich; he has everything except a good home life. He rejects all the material possessions that his father buys him when he finally calls 911 to save his mother from getting beaten again by his father. Gingerbread is Drew’s neighbor and witnesses all of the things he goes through. Gingerbread and Keisha end up dating. Keisha lives with her Aunt Eva, her little sister and older brother Nick. She also has a hard time but finds comfort in Gingerbread. Monique, who is pregnant by her abusive ex-boyfriend, finds real peace with Hector, a nurse at the prenatal clinic who knows that love is the only way to help her cope with her anger. Grace becomes a model; her life seems perfect, except for her relationship with her mom. Nothing Grace does is ever right in her mom’s eyes. Sam, like Grace also becomes a model. They date for awhile and find they have many things in common. When Drew comes to the High School in Brooklyn, he and Sam immediately make friends. Sonia is dealing with the pressure of being a good Muslim girl in an intolerant public school. It becomes really hard for her when the only person who seemed to understand her committed suicide. The story ends with Eric, who has also faced many problems like drugs. The only person he really seems to like is his brother. His mother is a drug addict, and he becomes the caretaker for his little brother, Mickey. The brothers are adopted by a family. Their new foster-sister, Linnette is intimidated by Eric and his bottled-up anger. Eric eventually opens up to Linnette and things start to get better. In the end, all of their stories seem to tie in with each other; they all have faced similar hardships and faced the reality of growing up into adulthood.

What kind of economy will my generation be looking at

What kind of economy will my generation be looking at?
My dad has been really pushing me with school because he is trying to prepare me for the future. He says the next Great Depression is coming. Our government has spent so much money that it can't pay it's debt and the only way to pay it off is to raise taxes and prices of everything, but even that won't pay it off. Yet the government continues to print money so it can pay for all this stuff dropping the dollar value constantly. Businesses won't be able to pay their employees and people will lose their jobs. He says we are past the turning point and the only way to fix our economy is to fall. After we, the U.S. and major consumer fall, the industrial companies like China will fall with us, because we wont be buying their goods. He said he expects us, America, to go the war with China which might lead into another world war. I didn't really understand why he said China would want to go to war with us but he said something about their 2 trillion dollar reserve and us bringing the value of that down after we fall. I'm 15 and I'm a volunteer firefighter. I'm also going to be taking paramedic training classes when I'm 16 or 17. All my life I've wanted to be a serviceman and my plans for college are studying physical therapy and probably other stuff in health and hopefully I'll be able to get a PHD, would that be a safe career choice? I also plan on taking ROTC. After college I plan on enlisting into the Army. Would that also be a good idea, considering our future? But we might all get drafted if there is a war anyway. Then after the Army I plan on starting my career in physical therapy or whatever I get the PHD in if I get it. My fallback plan is to get a job in a hospital somewhere if i can because my mom is a nurse and I've learned stuff from her, I'm getting experience from firefighting, I'm in junior ROTC with my high school, and I plan on taking those paramedic classes. I don't know if I will be able to enlist and follow my dream anymore though. I might just have to work my butt off the rest of my life. My dad says we need to get a farm, drill a well, and learn to rely on our selves. What do you people think? Will i be able to follow my dream or is my dad right about this stuff? @Anjaree My dad is no democrat. He wants me to have a job that pays. Something in science, not necessarily in the health field. The health field seems safe to me because people will always need doctors.

your dad is a bit of a pessimist, but he's right about education. All brainless jobs are being outsourced to China or done by machines. Medical field is a very sensible career. Doctors earn a ton, and nurses, technicians and other support personnel are also making a decent living. The industry will not go away as population is ageing, and mechanization will not be a threat to jobs for at least a generation.
2 :
Your father is obviously a democrat. He supports the health care reform. Personel in the health sector will get a decent job and be rich. Our health care reform will be completed in 6 years. You can't wait.
3 :
I'm not sure things will turn out exactly the way your father predicts, but from where I stand, he is at least a realist. I tend to look at the more fundamental issues: the world is living beyond the carrying capacity of the Earth: http://dieoff.org/page110.htm http://dieoff.org/page13.htm That is not sustainable, which means things are almost certainly going to get a lot worse fairly soon. For example: 1. The U.S. economy and all modern economies are built on cheap energy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_intensity When energy prices rise too high, the U.S. economy goes into recession http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/francis/archive/2009/09/16/oil-prices-mean-perpetual-recession.aspx So whether oil prices rise because of greater demand or just because the remaining oil is harder and harder to get to, the lack of cheap oil is going to hurt. 2. Global warming is going to hurt http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/science/earth/09climate.html etc. http://www.energybulletin.net/node/3834 So he is right about economic times getting harder. I can easily see wars over access to resources as a result, http://globalpolicy.org/the-dark-side-of-natural-resources/water-in-conflict.html but it is harder to see a complete breakdown of law and order in the U.S. And if there were a complete breakdown, no small group could survive for any length of time on their own. Even the American colonists relied on continuing support from England; the frontiersman on the supplies from town; etc. And, of course, modern society is far more complex than ever before. http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2010/07/insufficient-data.html So what's the answer? I can't tell you. But: 1. Education is never wasted as long as it is not too specialized. Very narrow niches can be very rewarding, but they are also very risky. 2. Technical skills are important, but so are people skills. And the ability to learn and adapt is going to be critical - very few people are going to be in one career their entire life. 3. Don't make security a high priority - it will ruin your life. 4. Stay healthy - take care of yourself, eat right, exercise, etc. Whether the world will run into major problems, as your father and I think, or not, things are going to be VERY different. (Compare your life as a teenager, your father's, and your grandfather's. Change has been coming thick and fast. So there will be big changes even if things work out very well.) Trying to anticipate and selecting the "right" path is the high risk approach. Being ready to adapt is the only way to survive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalist_and_specialist_species All that said, getting into health care is not a bad idea; though I'd aim higher than physical therapy. The military does offer good training for better qualified enlistees (but maybe the Navy or Air Force rather than the Army?) and helps pay for schooling after, so that is not unreasonable either. And, no matter what, however good or bad things go, you will have to work your butt off the rest of your life. And people with high-paying jobs tend to work even more: http://www.bls.gov/k12/help06.htm So, try to find work you find worth doing, that will make you feel good about you've accomplished at the end of the day, not work that just pays well, but leaves you feeling like a heel.

What can i do to make my life better

What can i do to make my life better?
Like a couple days ago in class i failed a test all because of runescape, i was in Algebra 2 then i was thinking about runescape and how i was owning noobs and punching them in there face and stufff and then i got blasted with ice cubes and then i woke up and it was the end of the period! i was sooo mad! i even asked the teacher if i could redo it, but he called me a nub, newb, noob and "NO" that was the worst day of my life! so i was so mad i ran out in the hallway screaming! hoping it was all a dream and it wasnt.. then i ran past my girlfriend and she was like "whats goin on?" and i was like "im sooo mad!" and she was like "why?" and i was like "the math teacher failed me all because of ice cubes" and pretty much after that she broke up with me so i was left alone in the hallways, and because of that it made me late to my next class PE! i was sooo mad!!!!!!!!!!!!! so once i got in PE i told the teacher i was late because some noob punched me in the face and for some reason he didnt believe me. so i got mad again and had to change into PE clothes, but while i was dressing out, 3 black kids came into the locker room and jumped me! so i pulled out my DDS and K0ed them and then out of no where some kid threw a APPLE at my head.. so i was knocked out.... then i woke up in the nurses office and the nurse said i had a concusion because of a apple and i was pretty mad. so after the nurse i went to my next class Modern American Literature... I really cant see why this is a required class i mean REALLY?!?!? who wants to read and learn about american literature? and its modern!! we live in the modern world! so theres no need to learn it.. but anyways theres this hot chick that sits across from me and i was like "yo? my girlfriend just broke up with me, so wanna make out after class?" and for some reason she got all mad and up in my face... i was like "woo" and got all doinky in pants and went in for the kiss and thats when she got ANGRY! so then she slaped me and i was like "wtf?" and i got kicked outa class... so i was pretty much mad.. so when going to the main office i stoped at this one kid trying to open his locker and i like... totaly threw a punch at his head and he went down on the floor like no other... so then i was in the office and the principal was yelling at me for no reason... and told me im gonna be suspended... but i was like.. "its a bad day! give me another chance? pl0x?" and he started calling my parents so i was like "NO!" so right there i ran outa the office and ran to my car and drove off! on my way home i got pulled over for going 102 MPH and the officer got pretty mad and took my license and i was like "WTF?" so once i got home, my mom was already there and told me "no more runescape for you!" and i was like totally mad sooo i called up my gangster friends and started planning a army to take over the school, which i think took place at some school in China so thats where i got my idea from. And thats where i am now...

I can't stand very traditional Chinese people even though I'm ethnically Chinese myself

I can't stand very traditional Chinese people even though I'm ethnically Chinese myself?
So my parents are immigrants from mainland China (Shanghai), and they are as stereotypically Chinese as you can get. When I was a kid I was forced to play the piano and would get locked out of the house late at night if I messed up a song too many times in a row. In the 2nd grade, I was really happy because I got an A on a test. I came home, told my parents, and they asked me if it was the highest grade in the class. I said no, one girl named Margaret got a score 2% higher than me. I got yelled at, told I was useless trash, I brought shame to the family, etc, that one day Margaret would grow up to be successful and I wouldn't. They never even MET Margaret before, but after that every time I said i got an A they would immediately follow it with "What did Margaret get?" and if Margaret got the SAME grade as me, 100%, they would still be annoyed that I didn't do better. There was an advanced class in my elementary school that you had to score higher than 90% on every subject to get into. My math scores were high enough, but my English scores were weaker since my parents spoke a different language at home and I didn't socialize in school. I didn't get placed in the advanced class, and my mom would go to the school and yell at the people on the main office. Then she would come home and yell at me, and even hit me for it. Margaret DID get into the class and so my parents would always say I embarrassed the family by being dumber than Margaret, even though they had never even MET Margaret. I got hit and even beaten for my grades through high school. Meanwhile, my parents would call their friends to ask what grades their friends' kids got, and if their friends' kids got higher scores than me I'd get yelled at too even if we weren't in the same class. But if the friends' kids didn't got lower scores, my parents would laugh about it together and say how stupid someone else's kid was. I even got yelled at once because my dad's friend's kid received an award from her elementary school. I said she was a year younger than me and they didn't have that award the year before when I was at the school, and my dad said that if I were really a good student, they would have MADE UP an award to give to me. I got slapped and even beaten for my grades a lot. My mom sent me to school once with a 102 degree fever because I "couldn't miss a day of school" and yelled at the school nurse because the school nurse wouldn't let me go back to class and affect the other students. Traditionally Chinese people act like this all the time, when I was little all the Chinese parents were equally crazy. I hate Chinese people so much that if I see Chinese parents with a kid, I feel sorry for the kid. I want to adopt a little kid from China one day to defend her from being raised by crazy Chinese people. Anyone else have crazy Chinese parents that they hate? Yes I am aware that not ALL Chinese people like this, but I'm saying it's part of the culture to be crazy. I don't hear Americans holding superstitions involving red ink or words that sound alike or call each other over the phone to compare their kids' grades and then yell at their kids for being useless and being a shame to the family when hanging up.

While it's true that Chinese culture is harsh when it comes to parents' appreciation of work and good grades, you have to know that--like all regular parents--your parents love you. I suffered throughout high school, where math was simply not my forte subject, and my parents were constantly on my back about it. However, when I got older, I realized that the pressure they put on me had helped me appreciate myself more. I learned to know myself when I had truly done my best and what grades to consider "acceptable". I thank my parents today for the way they were on my back because they helped me reach the success I've found today. Push through it and just do YOUR best. I know your parents' approval may be important to you but you must appreciate yourself first :)
3 :
I despise most old white people and I'm white so your issue isn't unique. I feel similar to you when these old people harp on the good old days where they trusted the government and they believe they should honor your debts and stuff like that. Seriously, trust the government I shouldn't even have to point out the stupidity in that one and the banks and our whole economic system as a whole are such a scam that only a brainwashed old person would just randomly give all your money to some bank regardless of how much your getting ripped off under some misguided notion of "honor". If the old people I'm talking about had any honor they wouldn't have allowed thugs in business suits to take over our economic system and set up a debt slavery system, not to mention the things like Tonkin Bay. How many peoples lives were ruined by Vietnam? I'm actually torn on whether I'd rather see the stuff your talking about or obnoxious stupidity of the old white people.

Wikileaks-why are people so shocked

Wikileaks-why are people so shocked?
The only thing that i am shocked about is the fact that this information which is kept secret has been made public. But as for the information itself, it is not that shocking at all. For example; Vladimir Putin is Batman and Dimitry Medvedev is Robin, (That to me is not shocking, we all knew that was the case). Arab countries wanted Iran to be bombed (Again, not so shocking, it was quite clear a shia Iran would be bad for Sunni nations). A member of the royal family was behaving inappropriately (nothing knew as far as i'm concerned, Prince harry has dressed like a Nazi, gets insanely drunk and Prince Charles is always saying inappropriate things). Libyan dictator has a hot female nurse who escorts him (Again, many dictators tend to have sex slaves). China waged cyber warfare against the internet (kind of knew that anyway). North Korea sold highly advanced missiles to Iran (North Korea has been giving nuclear and missile technology to Syria, Iran all the time, this is not surprising at all). The release of this information is to be condemned as it is private property, and illegal to release such information. But as for the information itself, i am not shocked by any of it, just the fact that it's been made public. Your thoughts and views?

The embarrassment is that know the diplomats are known to have said it. Its like you might get the idea that someone doesn't like you, but hearing them say they hate you is still a bit of a shock.
2 :
Some people will be embarrassed by the information. They thought that the things that happened and the things said would not be made public. Too bad for them. You are right, the only thing shocking is that some of the truth got aired. The people need to know what is going on to make informed decisions for how the country is ran. It is too bad that some might be embarrassed. To prevent that, they need know that they will be held accountable and the people have the right to know (unless it really falls into the domain of national security and no persons potential embarrassment fits that criteria).

The reason why am voting for McCain, and why are you

The reason why am voting for McCain, and why are you?
The men has much wisdom!! Look at how old he is, America needs a guy who has known America longer then me and you combined. He seems like a great husband and again a guy with wisdom. Another reason why I am voting for him is because my mother is a nurse and she will get great benefits just being one. Look at McCain's age he will need indoor health care, and because of it all nurses world wide will get free gas as long as there working as nurses to Seniors around the country. Yes are taxes may go way up to fuel nurses around America but look at the bright side, are president will get the best health care any old guy could wish for. Another reason is I love how he is the classic American, Obama is too focused on making America work for itself again...you know made in America more then China...um why do we need more jobs here? And the whole education idea he wants to bring is a joke we have better things to focus on like war! McCain will start young boys early learning about what war is about and how to handle it, I can't wait until I have some sons someday : ) Plus just like the great Bush and mind you am not speaking of Bushes bake beans I mean THE BUSH both of them have the same ideas just about. I feel sorry for those wanting to vote for Obama...pretty sad indeed. Ewww pro Obama people! Mccain also promises women more equal rights, so did Obama's wife about equal pay...lol she is crazy, but Mccian he will make sure females can also be forced into war not just guys...truly unfair.

I love to see libs scared to death over VP picks.

Go back to eating your "bushes"-your word baked beans and drinking your Obama-aid. Maybe some day you will have the intellect to debate properly-oh no wait-probably not.
4 :
i cannot blv you want to vote for mccain. your reasons suck! anyone with half a brain can see and hear that obama is the man for this country. i wonder if you are not just voting for mccain because he is white or because maybe you are privilaged and selfish. yeah, thats it.
5 :
you think people who read your reasons will want to vote for McCain?? LOL LOL LOL. I am neither cheering for Obama nor McCain, but your reasons and ideas made me laugh.
6 :
Your sarcasm is wonderful....too bad most will not get it :)
7 :
LMAO Don't forget the newest addition to the ticket...I mean when McCain needs all those nurses and cannot get out of bed, who is going to run the country? Someone who has experience being mayor to a unincorporated hole in the wall? Yikes! You have convinced me to vote for Obama...not that there was ever a question of who would be getting my vote! Add: I just talked to my friend, a nurse, and told her what you said...she has always been a staunch democrat...but, given the cost of gas, she is now on board with McCain. And, she has 3 daughters that she would love to have forced to go to war! Yippee! Another Add: Maybe McCain will help us become one with China...then, we too can have strict one child policies and force people to make things at a crappy wage for countries in Europe!
8 :
mccain? wtf. OBAMA all the way sweetheart
9 :
If you're serious than your nuts. How do you feel about the draft?
10 :
i'm voting for mccain too... well i'm a republican and he's the only republican left, but i don't really care much for presidents. if they're bad, we the people will rebel and revolt over their rule (: edit: yeah.. that's true. lol
11 :
if mccain gets it, he wont be around long to deliver those "promises".
12 :
Pretty sad that Republicans and upset Women jump to McSame just because he picked some women who's a false prophet to other women and other then planning to undo Women’s rights and give oil companies more power will play no role in our Government she's just a puppet to get McSame into office. Well I hope that IF McSame wins that women are happy when she strips your freedoms away, forces her views on ALL women and is used as a tool by McSame you brought it on yourselves. After that everyone will think well gee we tried giving a women power and look what she did never again. It all comes down to this Right Gender, but the Wrong Person in the Wrong Party. I hope you can live with this because it will set your efforts for women’s rights back about 50 to 100 years.
13 :
I respect McCain and his service to this country. However in this day and age we cannot afford another 4 years of George Bush. Let's look at the facts together shall we? McCain has voted with Bush 90% of the time. No wonder President Bush himself endorses McCain it's hard to tell them apart. McCain says a middle class american is someone who makes at least 5 million dollars a year. Now if you make more then 5 million a year then yeah the choice is obvious, McCain is your man.
14 :
aren't you and huong hue under 18? I think I get your point
15 :
I read that women are more likely to abuse power than men are proves why men make better leaders. I am not saying this science is so take that feminists.

Why the Chinese Particularly Like Canadians

Why the Chinese Particularly Like Canadians ?
Many Canadian tourists I have met in Beijing during the Olympics told me that they received particularly warm welcome from the Chinese when their Canadian identities were revealed. They were curious of the source of such favourable reactions. Canada has a peace-loving and culturally inclusive image that the Chinese find easy to like. There are also two Canadians that immediately come to mind when the Chinese think of Canada. The first one is Mark Rowswell, a University of Toronto graduate who moved to Beijing in 1988 to further his study of the Chinese language and accidentally embarked on a soaring career as a beloved TV personality. Widely known in China by his Chinese name Dashan (which means Big Mountain), Rowswell has become China's most popular foreigner. His fame and popularity is largely predicated on his ability to master the Chinese folk language and his deep understanding of the Chinese culture. For the Chinese people who eagerly want to be understood by the rest of the world, Rowswell's efforts are greatly appreciated and his success is well respected. Previously remained relatively unknown in Canada, Rowswell has been brought under the spotlight by the Beijing Olympics. Marched with the Canadian athletes in the Opening Ceremony, Rowswell helped the Canadian team win an especially warm reception from the Chinese crowd. The Canadian Olympic Committee has also appointed Rowswell as a team attache to help its athletes and staff overcome the cultural and social obstacles during the Games. If we say that Rowswell has contributed to furthering the cultural understanding between the people from China and Canada, there is a Canadian that has laid the foundation of friendships between the two countries as early as in 1938, long before the establishment of Sino-Canadian diplomatic relations in 1970. That Canadian is Dr. Norman Bethune, who traveled to Yan'an, China in 1938 and helped the Chinese in their struggle against the Japanese in the Second Sino-Japanese War. As a tireless and inventive surgeon and a great teacher, he saved hundreds of lives by performing emergency battlefield surgical operations and medical training for Chinese doctors, nurses and orderlies. Tragically, in 1939 Dr. Bethune died of septicemia from a cut he received when performing surgery. Dr. Bethune's selfless humanitarian efforts and spirit of internationalism have deeply touched the hearts of all Chinese people. Mao Zedong especially published an essay entitled In Memory of Norman Bethune. Many statues in his honour have been erected throughout the country. Movies and TV series were made to document his legacy. The Bethune Memorial House located in Gravenhust, Ontario has also become a popular destination to many Chinese tourists. While Mark Rowswell is well liked in China as "the friendly guy next door", Dr. Norman Bethune is loved and highly respected by the Chinese people as a national hero. Both men have contributed to the particularly favourable impressions of Canadians by the Chinese people. But then again, what's not to like about Canada..?..we're just so great aren't we..?

peace corps idea advice plz

peace corps idea advice plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
im 19 and i am a nurses assistant. i want to go to the peace corps in China for 2 years, to help ppl their i beleive that it is a good experince for me, and im determined to go. the peace corps also gives you 6,000$ when you return home. Should i work for a year and then go to the Peace Corps while im young and dont have anything holding me back? here is my idea: work for a year as a nurse asisstant at a hospital go to the peace corps then come back and go to college for 2 years. what do u think??

Crystal, Its good that you are working as a nurses assistant, however have you been to college (2 or 4 year?) because the PC generally looks for that, but it isn't necessary. Peace Corps does indeed go to China, but only to teach...they don't have health programs that go there. Not all countries the peace corps goes to (which is 72 or 73 of them) have health, most do, but China doesn't. If you get on peacecorps.gov you can find all the countries PC goes to, as well as what the volunteers do there. Also, when you apply, although you can preference a region, maybe even a country, there is no gaurentee. Some people beg for Africa or Latin America but get placed in Europe or Asia. some people beg for Europe but get placed in the Pacific. Its just the way it goes. They will place you where they see you best fit. As for the 6k upon return, the peace corps gives you a certain amount of money at the end of your service for each month you volunteered, so if you volunteer all 27 months, its approximately 6k they will give you to help you get a house or health insurance or whatever for when you return. But if you leave early and only serve....say 18 months, then you get considerably less money. Basically you earn it. If you haven't been to college, I'd at least go to get an associates degree if possible (of course it isn't always possible) especially in the area that you want to work in....or I'd go out and get a lot of volunteer work in the area you want to work in. Remember, the application process is long, it can take anywhere from a few months to a year and a half! Its a straining process, but worth it in the end. You must volunteer for 2 years, but it looks like you realize this. Pretty much, you earn your keep there. You work hard where ever they send you. But if you are interested in ONLY China and would not be willing to be placed anywhere but there (trust me, I know the lure of China, I majored in Chinese history and have been twice to Beijing).....then I would look for volunteer organizations that focus specifically on China or where you can choose your country. I doubt you'll get China, I couldn't even get China, because you have to have a teaching degree to go there, of course you could always use that 6k to travel to china after service. If you want health, Africa and Latin America are big on health. With the PC you have to go with the flow and take what they give, they place you where you best fit and can do the most for a country and its people. You may want some place specific, and may get it, but could get something completely different.

32 and going back to college

32 and going back to college!?

Your past interest was Social Worker to help people with problems, situations etc. Your current dream is Teacher to help people learn. You definately feel like you want to help people. How many Psychology / Sociology courses have you taken? You could be a Psycologist or Psychiatrist. I'm not sure what Information Technology is, what area of study is that? I am going for Business so I don't know what IT is or what courses you have taken for it. I agree that a teachers pay is not great, but you have the opportunity of advancement in that field. You can start as an elementary teacher and work up to high school and eventually become a college professor. Since you want to help people why not look into School Councelor, see what credentials you need for that and what it's paying. The educational field is such a wide field there are so many different opportunities. You could be a Financial Aid Councelor at a college. When you return to college just take a look at everyone you can and what their jobs are and ask yourself it's the job for you. Then you can ask them what the job is like and if they think the pay is fair, etc. Ask the professors, the councelors, the admissions advisors... Good Luck!
2 :
First of all, 32 is not "old". 32 is older than the traditional college student but it is not old in the absolute sense. I went to grad school straight out of undergraduate school when I was 23 and I was going to school with people in their 50s. Having said that, I think you may need to partially separate the idea of going to college from the idea of a job. There are many jobs where you can make decent (not necessarily great) money without a college degree. On the other hand, a college degree (in anything) can open up a lot of opportunities. Also, you do not have to have get a job only in the field that you studied in college. Most college degreed people are probably in a field that is either entirely different or just related to the field they studied in college. You say that you are going back to college, so I presume you want to build on some of the credits previously earned? If you were studying social work before and you're still into 'helping people', could you maybe just go ahead and finish your social work degree or a related field? You may not want to be a social worker now, but maybe you can find a related job with some public or non-profit agency that does a lot of human services work or even teaching or giving community education training (my local Red Cross has community educators who teach people emergency preparedeness, for example). After getting your degree and once you get your foot in door, maybe you can do professional development or CEU training on computers and information technology, so that you can later move to a position closer to that area that makes more money. You could probably even move on to be an IT person in a human services agency or educational institution, so you get the best of both of your worlds. I am with a large local public agency in the Midwest and we have had people in our IT staff with degrees in English, History, and other non-technical or non-computer related fields. To sum up, I advise you to get your degree in the most efficient and least costly manner possible. The degree, regardless of the field, would then make you more marketable (and even your husband should realize the value of a college degree as a passport to economic opportunity - almost equivalent to getting a high school diploma 40 years ago). Then, you can move on to beefing up your IT background on your career path through continuing education/professional development type coursework and training, as opposed to studying IT to get a university degree which would seem to be a much more costly endeavor for you given your background.

God also tells you to respect your parents, keep that in mind.. i don't know which is the right thing to do... but talk to your parents again.
2 :
You. Need to lay off those drugs.
3 :
My cousin tried the peace corps. and ended up coming home within a couple of months. She was sexually harassed the whole time by her superiors. Its dangerous because you also end up in areas where there aren't protections for you and civil unrest can mean a death sentence. Why don't you throw your energy into becoming a full blown nurse? or better, a doctor? There is a growing need for medical professionals.
4 :
You can use you illusion let it take you where it may We live and learn and then sometimes it's best to walk away Me I'm just here hangin' on It's my only place to stay at least for now anyway. I've worked too hard for my illusions just to throw them all away! I know it looks like I'm insane...But take a closer look I'm not to blame.... Cos if FAITH is blind I guess I'll buy myself a cane!
5 :
voices in your head are a sign of a seriously delusional sickness.
6 :
If you really feel that is what God wants you to do. I say God Bless and go. We have a family that is headed off to Kosovo for 7 years. If your parents are believers they will understand. The best way they can support you is in prayer.
7 :
Life is dangerous- cancer, Alzheimer's, AIDS, drive by shootings, drunk drivers... Everyone must find their own way. If you stay at "home" and work in an office and never step out of boundaries made by someone else you might wind up regretting it. If you go live your life the way you want to you should not have regrets. Your choices are yours. Also, I've known a few people who've been in the Peace Corps and they expressed liking it and learning a great deal from the experience. Best wishes to you.
8 :
If you feel that this is what God is telling you to do,You are the only one that knows that,I see what the first person told you to Honor your Mother and Father, which is true, but if you strongly feel that God wants you to go,Then you also have to obey Your HEAVENLY FATHER.Pray for God to show your parents as well, they are probabley against it because they Love you,and it worries them that your so young and well be on your own in a whole other country. If you were my daughter,I know that would be the case with me.
9 :
Yes, I do too. But the reasons are established by ourselves, if we focus on what we have been doing lately. You are 19, and old enough to do whatever you want, but I would advice to listen to voices with more experiences like those of your family. If they are against your joining the peace corps, they might have some obvious reasons to reject the idea. But if you are of those who learn only from their mistakes, go for it. But if things turn out to be disastrous, I hope you will be big enough to blame only yourself and not an unhappy childhood.
10 :
As a mom my advise is to tell you to go follow your dream and your heart, as hard as it might be for your parents to let you go... it's not really their decision. Tell them to have faith in the values they've en stilled in you as you were growing up and also to trust in God that you are doing his will. As a parent it is bitter sweet for us knowing we'll have to let go and let you live your own life... "sad for us but an adventure for you". Just reassure them that they have done a great job as your parents and you know how to make wise decisions. However have you considered another avenue where you can be helpful, like the military where you would be in a group that has more rules and is more liabel to protect you as you work for them? I think the Peace Corps has had some bad publicity and might not be as safe a place for a young woman. Your leaving the nest is going to happen someday it's inevitable they will have to learn to adjust, they knew this day would come, do listen to what they're saying for advice reasons they could be speaking from experience, as a Parent we only want the best for our kids but on the other hand have faith in God if that is where you feel he is wanting you to go then he guided your path! Best of luck in what you do! Go out there and enjoy all that life has to offer and make them proud.

What major/course should I take in university

What major/course should I take in university?
I'm in Junior high, going to my senior year (last year) and I really don't know what course/major to pick in college/university. My dream is to become an actress in big movies (no, i'm not a greedy celebrity wannabe, I really really admire people who work on the media, and I always wanted to know what it feels like to be in big budget movies, and to work with great directors, actors and editors, work as an actress professionally and seriously, because that's all I ever wanted and dreamed of). Since I was a kid I always wanted to be an actress or a singer, because I love singing. But where I live in is no place for actors or musicians to be. I live in China. And people here have only goals to become doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, all regular jobs that for me are not really what I consider FOR me. I tried out to be a singer for several bands but failed to enter due to teenage issues. But that's ok. I always joined drama classes, and every time they are over, I always find a way to be in drama courses/classes because I always loved that. I tried out for a drama club/performing arts that were suppose to do a TV series, but failed, so right now they do performing arts shows with different styles and varieties. I went to their casting but failed to enter. It's ok, I kept fighting. The director of the group made her own workshops and I went to her workshops because no matter if I failed or anything I still believe in myself. And she saw what I was capable of, and she got me to join her official performing arts group. Sure people there got great moves and stuff (because after all this group is more about dancing expressively) and she normally puts me as a singer in her shows. In acting, there was never much chance since she focuses on shows based on performing arts (like I said expressive dance) which I also like, but not as much as acting). So what I mean is, I try to get as much experience as possible, but I also got the issue of not many people focusing on being in Hollywood (because for everyone here that's just a teenage dream, and not a real job) but what if I feel like I can make it? I already gave up many times, but what if giving up isn't the right thing, and what if I got it? Right now my family doesn't have enough money to afford for me to go to a drama school/college in Hollywood, because I live in China (which I totally hate) so my plan is to get a major/course that could get me a good job that would support me as back up if my dream to become an actress is a fail. I really don't know what to do. I'm studying biology, physics and chemistry but it's all too hard for me because I have know interest for this. My mom wanted me to be a nurse but I don't want to. So she said I could do anything I want but it has to be a "real" job. I want to be an actress, whether this is a job or not, it's what I want. Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my time. What should I do? My goal is to get a good job, like I said, to support my life if all else fails, and I wanted to go live in LA, California ( I've only been to the states ONCE for holidays and it was great, never felt like home!) and so what should I do? Any advice?

Very few people are successful as actresses, and Hollywood is full of wanna-be actors and actresses who live on the street in cardboard boxes and eat old dumplings and fish heads from the garbage. Your first duty as an adult is to avoid being a parasite. Your mother is right — this means getting a good college education in some marketable filed (or apprenticing to some useful trade). Nursing is actually very good and is very portable around the world. When your education is finished, THEN you can think about being an actress.

maybe a double major in business management and theatre arts ? at lest you can open your own business if things dont work out with acting

Why do people consider the dog to be their "friend", and kill and eat their"mother" the cow

Why do people consider the dog to be their "friend", and kill and eat their"mother" the cow ?
According to Vedic culture, the cow is one of seven sacred mothers, including, Mother Earth, our birth Mother, the Nurse, etc.... WIth a cow, and an acre of land, one can live self-sufficintly, off the grid, and not have to participate in the madness of consumerism, the exploitation and death of citizens of other countries for their resources. Cow dung has a higher combustibility than wood or coal, used as a free and natural fuel, from milk, butter cheese, yogurt, can be produced for valuable nutritional content. Clarified butter is an amazing medicine that has been used in Ayurvedic natural healing for millenia to cure everything from a coma, to blindness. Considering all of these contributions, how can people be so brain dead to think that the dog is a better friend than the cow ? People in China are looked down upon as heartless to eat their dogs, yet in many other parts of the world we think it is "normal" to kill and eat the cow ??!?!?! As far as I'm concerned, if you're going to eat meat, then all meat is the same. I'm a vegetarian, so I stay away from it all. I also agree with your reasoning, and I cook with ghee (clarified butter) often.
2 :
My mother was human. Beef tastes really good, and some people are allergic to milk/dairy. I am Extremely lactose intolerant, and cuold potentially die from too much lactose. I would try dog, if anyone around here would let their pooch be broiled. We're all different. Nutritionists say all this about variety, and the right balance. I understand in some cultures, every meal includes yams. What do they have to say about that? You eat what your culture allows, and what you decide is good for yourself. Otherwise you are miserable. I prefer not to be miserable.
3 :
First, most people don't know the values of the cow. Second, most people aren't part of the "Vedic" culture, and do not recognize the cow as one of any "seven mothers". We're part of the typical American culture that sees the cow as a hamburger, meatloaf, steak, stew, etc. This same culture sees dogs as pets and cows as a food source. Do you know how much you offend those people who worship veggies?

most people are stupid when they eat the cow and think that thats only what its good for.(im a veggie 2) And the dogs are friends bcus they are loyal and always there for us.
2 :
People who have never actually owned a cow are so funny. Yes, go live off the grid with your single cow. Good luck with that. Since you will have to breed her every year to get that milk for your butter and cheese and yogurt (oh did you think they were perpetual milk machines?), you will be up to your eyeballs in useless bull calves in no time. Around that point, you'll realize why people eat beef. And personally, I think it's a crying shame we destroy millions of unwanted dogs and cats every year when there are people starving. I have no problem with people in other countries eating dog. Better than just euthanizing it and throwing it in the county dump.

It is the human mind to do the stupidest thing. Let me give you another example. I love this question so much! It is very thought driven and inspiring actually! Most guys like the girl that is a ditzy airhead when she does not know how to cook or clean. She usually is more moody than other girls because she thinks she is a princess, but she is beautiful which is the thing that matters most. Everyone knows that a less ditzy more able wife that knows how to cook and clean would really help out a lot, but guys still go for beauty. As for the dog, it does not provide us with milk or have burnable dung, but we know it is loyal to us most of the time, and it provides companionship that a cow can never do! This is why we go for the dog over the cow. We know the cow is more useful, but we want a companion instead. It is human nature to go for the more attractive choice rather than the savy choice. I hope that makes sense!
4 :
People who havwe lost faith in humane beings ,love only Dog.As regards Cow- Its harmfull to eat cow.It causes Diabetes. It has also worm ,if not cooked properly can be very harmful. To call an animal, earth & other things as Mother,is only showing ignorance of the Truth. Can any of these give life.Thnese thoughts were used in old days to keep wild man away from the destruction & save imprtant things & animals due to their usefulness.Likewise many other animals are also imprtant for existing on earth.Animal care deptt is awake now a days. But making it religious issue is shear weakness of the teachers of these thoughts. They could not handle the Truth & so used a tact to keep the aim achieved. May be I shall amswer on your e mail address.
5 :
Because dog meat is much more tough and stringy. Also euphoric holier than thou types like yourself have a tendancy to keep calling the A.S.P.C.A. everytime I butcher a dog. Why must you assume we value one more than another? All beings have value, It was simply my good fortune to be born at the top of the food chain. It is normal to kill and eat the cow you mope. It's not as though we just started doing it last week. I believe the majority of us have been killing and eating things since we could walk upright.
6 :
Well, come on. Seriously? You can train a dog to do your bidding at the drop of a hat. What the hell can you do with a cow? Get milk. Whoopie. Just eat it and end its useless existance.
